Sadly, I am moving to los angeles next week and I am driving through Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado (Denver), down through southern Utah and then Nevada until L.A.

What food recommendations would you make for a guy with half his life, and his pet Mastiff, in his car with him, since I can't really stop for a long period of time except at night. I plan on staying in a hotel somewhere in Nebraska, at a friend's house in Denver, and then somewhere near the Utah/Nevada border.

Thanks, and I'll miss using this board so much!

A good place to stop along the Utah/Nevada border is Mesquite, NV, an oasis town along the Virgin River. The two better casino/hotel properties are Si Redd's Oasis and the Virgin River. Both have pretty decent restaurants that are better than you'll find in most towns in thearea.

sadly NOTHING. LA owns you. I'll be duplicating your drive (subsitute Mastiff with Golden Retriever) next Oct.-ish.

i hv zero recs for the drive, as the last "6" times i've done CHI/DTW/NYC <-> LA, i lived on flamin' cheetos+mountain dew & BK.

tho you'll be crossing Las Vegas:

    Makino Seafood & Sushi Buffet.
3965 S. Decatur Blvd, Suite 5 (NW Corner of Flamingo & Decatur) 702-889-4477
best sushi buffet in the country, food:dollar ratio. forget the over-franchised todai. makino > * (easy to get to, exit flamingo off s. i-15, make a right, pass RIO hotel, make a right into strip mall after decatur).

and if you can't wait til Cali for In-N-Out, there's one right off I15:
    2900 W. Sahara Ave.
    Las Vegas, NV 89102

    enjoy Los Angeles!

Unfortunately, I can't go to the Makino Buffet since I will have my 170 lb. Mastiff in tow. But I have already planned to stop either at the In-N-Out off Tropicana or in Barstow, so that's a done deal!

In Denver, there's actually a decent BBQ place, The Brickyard, and there's a lot of relatively unexplored Mexican.

Though it's a little longer, I think, have you considered driving south of Iowa and going through Kansas City? Or you could drive through Wyoming instead of Denver and go down through Utah and have SLC as an option. It's an easier drive through Wyoming and down than across the Rockies through Colorado. In SLC, Crown Burger's pastrami burger is a must. Great fries, too.

Either way you'll have Vegas. I imagine most people here would suggest Lotus of Siam?
