Ok, let's start with the fact that although I haven't posted much over the past year or two I still enjoy reading the stuff here. Basic reason for not posting is that since my kids were born four years ago I just don't get out much. I find a lot of the stuff here interesting. I'm more than happy to enjoy my lunch hour reading through detailed posts of people describing food.
But on the other hand, I can also see why that does not appeal to some who may view it as a bit pompous. I don't, but I understand those who do.
On a related note, I hate the word "foodie." Something about the sound of it. When challenged on the issue, my usual response is to deny that the term fits me but to admit that yeah, I like to eat.
The Boss tends to bring together people who have a low level of tolerance for all things pompous. That being said, if, hypothetically, you are known for your love of foie gras, you can be accepted at Boss as long as you expect to get ribbed about it to no end. I wouldn't exactly volunteer these details there. And if you come in with any attitude, it probably won't be a good fit.
But if you want a place with an otherwise fun crowd where you are not allowed to take anything (except maybe the Bears and there are also a few of us who talk soccer in great detail) too seriously, then Boss can be a great place. I once described it as a place filled with political hacks where I can get a Guinness poured way too fast by a scantily clad waitress. Not that many hacks, but otherwise the description seems to fit.
