Katy's Chicken Crack

Sorry to start a thread for this but I can't remember the name of the chicken crack at Katy's Naperville. Taking my parents there for hte first time and I want to get some of this. As I've only had it once I don't recall the name (not on the menu).

Perhaps you're confusing it w/Lao Sze Chuan's "Tony's 3 chile chicken" aka "chicken crack"?

Never been to Katy's Naperville, but it sounds like la zi ji, or some variation.

No, never been there. I went to Katy's Dec. of 09 and posted a thread. I called it chicken crack at that time also, but it was just a term I had picked up from LTH. Maybe a picture will help?

Based on that link and the image you posted therein, it's definitely the la zi ji 辣子鸡, or chili chicken. Sometimes the word "dry" comes in front.

That implies spicy, I'm pretty sure this stuff was on the sweet side. Maybe spicy too, I don't recall.

Mikelipino coined the term "chicken crack" for what he called Katy's "three-pepper chicken" in this thread.

I'm pretty sure this is what is referred to as "chicken with hot dried pepper" on Katy's lunch menu --although Mike does say in the post that the dish was an off-menu special two years ago.

Thanks a bunch, that's the pertinent thread all right. Now hopefully they'll get me what I want when I take the family for supper, assuming you're correct about the name on the lunch menu.

Hi, sorry for the late post, I've been traveling...

At Katy's the chicken with hot dried pepper and three pepper chicken are two separate entities. The chicken with hot dried pepper is similar to salt and pepper chicken fried with the dried peppers, offered at many Sichuan places. The three pepper chicken, which is not on the menu AFAIK, is similar to LSC's Tony's three chili chicken in that it has a sweetish sauce. And I don't think they offer three pepper chicken on the lunch menu.

And as ordering outside the menu is a little dicey due to the slight language barrier, it's sometimes a dice roll if you actually get the dish. Good luck though!
