Nova Scotia is the land of the lobster. I guess I shouldn't have been too surprized to find this at the local McDonald's:

    Image

It was pretty damn good, all things considered: mild mayo sauce, goodly portion of claw meat, underbed of fresh chopped lettuce, typical bun. It was $8.99CAN as part of a meal. (Of course given the strength of the loonie these days, there's not much difference betwixt the two dollars!)

Awfully pretty out here... I'll report a few findings later.

Those typically show up at various locations in the Mass. area during the summer as well. They really aren't too bad, especially at that price point. Glad you enjoyed it!

    Sheesh.
When last we visited N.S., McDonald's hadn't penetrated past Halifax. We found wonderful dining all over the province using a thin volume called "Where to Eat in Canada," sort of a Canadian precursor to the Sterns' "Roadfood." I have no idea if it's still published. Anyway, following its recommendations, we found ourselves in motel coffee shops, converted train stations and all manner of unlikely eateries in beautiful settings. We enjoyed fantastic lobster rolls, wild blueberry pie and dishes made with local mushrooms.
I guess nothing good lasts forever.

The one I had years ago in Maine was quite good.

A few weeks ago we drove the Cabot Trail http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabot_Trail the views were stunning.

Some dining highlights of our time on Nova Scotia (sorry no pics):

Red Shoe Pub in Mabou www.redshoepub.com - some of the best seafood chowder I've had, very light cream, chunks of potato & seafood.

Rusty Anchor in Pleasant Bay www.therustyanchor.ca - terrific lobster roll sandwich

We had stuffed ourselves with seafood during the whole drive along the Cabot Trail so by the time we hit Halifax, we wanted some spice. Found JiXiang www.yelp.ca/biz/jixiang-chinese-restaurant-halifax The Cumin Lamb and Twice Cooked Pork were great. Such a good meal before doing some harbor side bar hopping!
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

My family makes fun of me because my favorite meal growing up was lobster, french fries and a coke . . . who's laughing now!!! I must say I'm shocked that you actually enjoyed it, but I absolutely would have ordered it, even if just for fun. Thanks for the great post Geo.

lucky you!! I think we are looking at getting to Prince Edward Island next summer.

I do hope that JiXiang is still around as there was only one other table of two when we went on a Saturday night, they were doing a brisk take out business so that bodes well.

    Willie,

Here's a couple of quickies for PEI:

Rick's Seafood House in St. Peter's Bay. Worth a detour, especially if you're interested in doing some bike riding in the nearby park trails. Pretty place, nice motel right alongside Rick's.

A crazy place, Slemon Park Hotel is a converted former RCAF base. The officers' quarters were turned into spacious, well-appointed rooms, and the Officers' Club is now a very nice restaurant. It's right on the bike path, and only a few miles from Summerside, which is a fun place to ride and eat and shop. Prices at Selmon Park are excellent.
