    another gem. the rosewater ice is unreal. i worked in the recording industry which had a heavy presence in the neighbor. this was a standard break to get away from our studio tans.

    Erik,

    have you found a purveyor of mashti malone here? The little grocery store next door to Larsa used to carry some, but no more. I also think (but am not sure) that the ice cream served at Kabul House may be Mashti malone

    No, I have not.

    You first told me about its availability at Peyvand Foods. I am sorry to hear that they no longer carry it.

    Unfortunately, Mashti's site does not list resellers.

    Peyvand once again has Mashti Malone Ice cream in stock. I did not see the ginger rosewater highlighted by Erik but on my visit yesterday they had pistachio, faloudeh, saffron rosewater, and orange blossom with pistachios.

    we got small containers of the saffron rosewater and orange blossom, while I liked both, of the two I would pick the saffron rosewater - I appreciated how both flavors were balanced and not overpowering, which they often are when used in ice creams and other sweets.

    prices are as follows:

    cup = 2.79
    pint = 4.99
    quart = 7.99

    As mentioned above Peyvand is next door to Larsa's on dempster

    I had my first Mashti experience last week -- I absolutely loved the place. Not the least of its virtues was the generosity of the staff and the owner (Mashti's brother), who allowed me to sample all the Persian ice creams and took care to package a largish takeout order when I wanted to share the stuff with my family.

    It's hard to choose between the saffron-rosewater and the ginger-rosewater ice creams, which I preferred to the orange blossom.

    During my most recent visit to Los Angeles, I paid Mashti Malone's two visits:

    I am happy to report that M.M.'s is still firing on all cylinders.
