This is based on one experience..

The chips they serve are from a bag and are those like corn chips with the brown spots in them.. Certainly not in house fried tortilla chips... The free salsa which is different than the two salsa they provide with food is just eh too..

Now that the negative is out of the way, I will tell you why this place is worth going to..

I am staying in Rosemont Chicago and decided to drive around until I found a place that looked appealing.. I had passed a few =cool Korean Looking spots driving around Elmhurst Ave, one Thai place I almost went to but, it was called Pad Thai.. And it was too gringo sounding..

So, as some cop was following me after I might have made a shady turn, I looked up to see this restaurant and made a hard turn into the parking lot.. See you later, pinche chorizo..

So, the place looks just the right amount of beat up for me. It looked a little worn in, let us say. I walked into the place and I was the only person who was not of Mexican Decent. This is always a good sign..

I sat down and was served the forementioned broke ass tortilla chips.. This almost made me leave but, something made me stay..

I looked at the menu and the food sounded pretty good.. Any menu that has brain tacos on it, is alright by me. The menu was in both Spanish and English.. I always get a kick out of the translations they provide..

So, being my first time, I stayed with the basics.. I ordered a Tripa Taco, Taco Al Pastor, and an Asada Gordito..

All the tacos came really stuffed.. They were 1.59 a piece. The Tripa taco was fantastic, like really, really good.. Often times they serve the Tripa super fried and crunchy.. However, they fried this so perfectly that it still kept the integrity and "nuances" of the intestine. A beautiful thing, for some..

Was very impressed with the gordita as well. These were made in house and stuffed with a really nice carne asada..

This place needs beer, why dont they have beer, seriously, what's the hell is the matter with them.. Maybe they will let me bring beer.

All in all, I will go back.. It was right next to Flamingo's which I have been to and liked.. But this place is no Flamingo and is not trying to be..This place is a chill little spot with friendly people who helped me find my way home after serving me some awesome tacos.

    Will go back.

    I hope you have.

my food love at Taqueria Los Compadres is the La Commadre torta: chorizo, ham, cheese, avocado, onion, tomato, refried beans and a bit of shredded lettuce. I also ask for a dish of jalapeno strips that they keep chilled in a fridge.

I can't bring myself to order anything else off of the menu. One of these days.....
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

I was in the area and picked up five tacos to go: carne asada, al pastor, barbacoa and lengua. I'm blanking on what the fifth one was, but it was definitely not a pork leg taco because when I asked for a pierna de puerco, the guy who took my order said, "I do not recommend that." He sounded serious, so I just took his word...

I thought the barbacoa was the best of the bunch with decent spicing and some crispy bits. The rest of the meats were pretty unremarkable, though the pastor actually tasted off to me, unpalatable. Also, I found the tortillas too thick--doubled up, they overshadowed the rather bland fillings. The red salsa packed some good heat.

I live close to good tacos, so I think my standards are skewed high. I'd explore the other tacos in the area rather than return to Los Compadres.
