Since there's a shortage of side dishes (so far), I'm going to make Block Party Beans to go with all of the BBQ items, and I'll bring my Gatorade sideline cooler filled with 5 gallons of iced spring water. Maybe something else, too.

    Hi,

If someone wants to bring something and doesn't know what, a Baylor watermelon is usually very welcome.

Ok got some ideas about what to bring.

First i'll let the surprise out. My friend David (homemade scaffold smoker david) is coming again, I've asked him to RSVP on his own this year but not sure if he has yet. We have been talking and I guess I'll be be the one to let the secret out. We are working on building an al pastor spit and he has been tweaking his recipe, which is a variant of a recipe he remembers making working in a restaurant in el paso when he was a teenager. I'm very excited about this. he's the brains behind the operation here. I'm mostly just an excited onlooker.

To compliment the al pastor i'm planning making fresh tortillas as needed, bringing the taco toppings as well as Dorado Zarandeado, and Red Shiso Lemonade becuase it was such a hit last year.

The Dorado is something i had while in Nayarit when the restaurant ran out of the red snapper (which is more typical for the zarandeado cooking method) and I really enjoyed the Dorado much more than the snapper, so I'm going to attempt to replicate that. I'll also be bringing chili oil to go with the fish (which is typical of that style of mexican as well)

    So that is from me:
    Dorado Zarandeado
Tortillas, cilantro, onion, lime, salsa, chili oil
    Red Shiso Lemonade

    Laikom.

Your plans sound very, very cool.

When you make your tortillas, do you use a press or do it by hand? If you need an extra press, I can bring mine.

Cathy, i did plan on bringing a press for the tortillas, but a second one may not hurt if it's not too much trouble to bring yours along as well. There's a good chance that yours is nicer anyhow.

    Hi,

One or two will do. There is no need for anyone to feel they have to provide enough servings to suit everyone.

I'll put you down for watermelon unless you advise otherwise.

May a lurker join in the fun?

Lurkers are always welcome. If they don't want to register to sign up, then click e-mail below to send me their information.

I am encountering people who tell me they are coming and even advise what they will bring. It is preferred they register here or by e-mail. You are more likely to have a name tag if it is here in print.

Ms. Ingie will come by her lonesome. I'll bring my Orzo Salad with basil and cherry tomatoes. This will help in the lack of sides department and will satisfy the vegetarians. :)

Do you think we need more drinks? I do have that five gallon thermal jug that I can either fill with water or tea.

+2. Can bring the Big Steel Keg if there's sufficient need.

Foodwise, I'll be bringing chicken wings. Debating whether to bring along the BSK and smoke 'em with a rub (G Wiv's or other) or to do a picnic friendly galangal-steamed, then chilled batch.

Just me so far. I might be +3 come later in the week as long as work schedules of my prospective foodies work out, but I will let you know. I haven't been to this picnic in a few years. My first time was back in 2008 when Laikom had invited me to come along. Great experience, and LOTS of food.

That said, I can bring my tri-color pasta salad since I did notice an absence of side dishes.

I had another question. I can't remember if dogs are allowed, would I be able to bring my little one if I decide to have her tag along?

    Thanks guys.
Have a good day in the kitchen.

I know one group of teenagers that will be ALL OVER that contribution....
I received a random text from one of the sons this summer at camp,
"Mom! send me some beef jerky, seriously! I need like a cow's worth of beef jerky..."

Long overdue update (hey, if anybody wants to help with the spreadsheet, shoot me a PM)

I have run into a glitch with Google Docs: you can't insert a single cell or group of cells, just a whole row or column. This means that if you've made an addition in the number of dishes you plan to bring, or the number of people in your party - it won't be appearing in the order you made your reservation, but in the order in which you posted the addition.

Also, if you need grill space, please PM the folks who said they'd be bringing a grill and set up a time.

So, here we are: Total guests
    160

    8 Appetizers
    11 Beverages
    1 Bread
    0 Condiment
    18 Dessert
    11 Main
    3 Salad
    4 Side
    1 Supplies
    26 TBD
    0 Other

    4 Need grill
    3 Bringing grill

Please check here and make sure your information is correct: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub ... utput=html

Feel free to post here or PM me with any errors, additions, etc.

Another note which may be useful, I mentioned that i'm bringing my weber smoker, however i won't be needing it. So it'll be up for grabs. It's the big one, 22 inches, so it could be the one that anyone could toss something into.

    Hi,

For those reserving with multiplie other attendees, please make sure your contribution compensates for the extra people.

Six people and a plate of cookies is not in the spirit of the event.

For instance, I am bringing my family. While I have not completely settle on what I will bring, I know:
    - My plum cake will be baked on a 1.5 X size 9x13 pan.
    - If I bring Bulgarian shopska salad, it will be family sized
    - If I bring cevapcici, it will be a generous quantity.
    - My sister will bring cupcakes.

If nobody showed, my family would still enjoy a meal. :)

    Regards,
    Cathy2
