I've been dying to smoke a Tri tip in the Santa Monica style but have not been able to find any Red Oak wood chips in the Chicago area. I know that they are available thru the mail but would much rather locate a shop where I can physically purchase them...any help?

    Thanks

    Horigan-Urban Forest Products
    Erika and Bruce
    8110 Monticello

They sell Wood- primarily for Furniture Makers- felled from Trees of The Urban Jungle.
Often they have lots of Oak- White and Red.Wood Chips for smoking is not their stock in trade-
but if enough folks asked- it may trigger a "light bulb" moment for them.

    Hickory,
    Apple,
    Mesquite,
    and many others...
    (no Red Oak though)

They usually they have both Mesquite and Hickory in chunks. In chips there I've seen at least: Apple, Cherry, Maple, Hickory and Mesquite.
