For some stupid reason, I need to attend a meeting at 5pm on Thursday. I'm not betting on any decent food being served. It's at Michigan & Huron. I'll probably be walking over from the Chicago red line station.

I hope to get downtown early enough to grab a bite to eat. Any decent early bird or bar dining options in the area? A burger and a beer is perfectly acceptable. Thanks in advance.

McCormick & Schmick's at Rush & Chestnut has their mucho-cheap happy hour right around then - here's a link to the menu & hours.

I'm not sure where you stand on the whole M Burger topic, but there's one on Huron, a half block east of Michigan.

There's a Whole Foods at Huron & Dearborn, if you're in the mood for a salad bar, hit-or-miss hot bar, or a couple slices of their pizza.

I'm sure there's much cooler stuff around there, but jeez, my brain's still in long weekend mode...I can't think of anything else.

Edited to add: How could I forget - there's the new Chick-fil-a at the corner of Chicago & Wabash, a stone's throw from the Chicago red line stop.

I really liked the cafe at Ikram, which is the bright red building at Huron and Wabash, two blocks from your meeting. The cafe is open until 6pm. It's on the second floor.

If you're coming from the red line, you won't be too far from Grahamwich (they close at 5:00).

The closest pushpin I have to that location is the Affinia (formerly Fitzpatrick) Hotel at Superior & St. Clair, with Marcus Samuelson's C-House restaurant off the hotel lobby and the C-View lounge on the roof. Used to be a great little Irish pub (with a bar food menu) called Fitz's, in the basement, but it's not mentioned on the hotel web site so I presume it's gone now.

You might want to check out Fleming's. They have a "5 for $6 until 7" menu.

Made it to M&S this afternoon. Very good 1/2 lb burger cooked to medium rare as requested. Fries were OK. Server kept my iced tea refilled. BTW - nice bathrooms. :D
