The Green City Mkt yielded some interesting items which will become a salsa crudo of sorts made w/ground cherries aka cape gooseberries, grilled tropea onions, organic melons, pickled cucumbers, pink radishes, cayenne peppers, peppedew and basil. Prob add some sort of nut as well. Hope it tastes good. Smells outrageous and it's still in the bag.

Nice! We had some of these in Cleveland last month -- RAB and REB added them to a brined tongue salad they served at a group dinner -- and they were great. Looking forward to getting all up in your salsa crudo tomorrow. :D

The groundcherries in the tongue salad were fun, but Ronnie is shortchanging himself and Julie, who both helped conceive of and prepare the dish.

Our picnic contribution looks like it's going to work out, so it's time to post. Rich and I are making a cured porchetta with a variety of homemade pickles and other accompaniments.

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

    Hi,

Please, no glass bottles containing beverages. This is not my wish, it is the rules from the Cook County Preserves. Neither you or the person named on the permit desire a ticket and mandatory court appearance.

    Your understanding is appreciated.

If this were at my house, please bring it on!

It makes me so sad to have to type this, but unfortunately we won't be able to attend - I'm starting to realize that thinking we'd make it to the picnic the day after moving was way too ambitious.

I hope you all have a blast! I look forward to reading about it on Monday...sort of :(

Glad to, we love smoking meat.
Also i have sad news, David and family (and al pastor) will not be making it tomorrow. He had been out of communication all week and I just found out tonight that he won't be able to attend due to health problems. He's very sad he can't make it and sorry that he won't be sharing the al pastor this year. Perhaps next picnic!

When you know, please announce here. Also make your own food tags: your screen name followed by the food item's name.

I am printing name tags now. As much as I try not to forget someone, it happens. At the holiday party, I never made a nametag for me. Proof when it comes to nametag forgetfullness, I exclude nobody!

    Hi,

If some people come between 10:30 - 11, we can move tables about.

I will be there from 9 am or so, cleaning corn and making sure nobody takes over our spot.

If someone has an empty coffee can at home, this is needed for the corn butter dunk.
