I've had this happen twice now. The first one was on a glass that we keep in our "spirits" cabinet, nice wine glasses and and some specialty glasses. I pulled one out that hadn't been used in awhile and there was mold on the side. I soaked it in bleech and ran it through the dishwasher and it was still there. After a lot of scrubbing and another round in the dishwasher it finally came off. This morning as I loaded the breakfast dishes into the dishwasher I noticed a speck on a glass bowl. I just emptied the dishwasher and the speck was still there and it looks like mold. Any thoughts out there?

    Try vinegar instead of bleach.

Is it from storing the glasses in a damp area, or what? I've never noticed mold form on glassware, let alone be as persistent as you describe.

Both items are in separate dry cabinets. The glass came out of a cabinet we store wine glasses in and it's in the family room. The glass bowl is in a kitchen cabinet and is in constant rotation because we use them for cereal every morning. Haven't found it on anything else.

For the stored wine glasses, wipe down the entire cabinet with a 10% solution of bleach and water and let dry completely. Wash everthing in the cabinet with the bleach solution or vinager. Dishwasher hot sani cycle is good with the vinager and soap. Mold can etch glasses so make sure you get it all. See if the the mold comes back in the cabinet. I don't know what is on the other piece.

I have heard that mold counts are exceptionally high right now. I don't have any good suggestions for dealing with it unfortunately. I might pull everything out of those cabinets and just double check that there's no mold in the cabinet and make sure that everything is bone dry when it gets stored.

Did your home ever get flooded or the roof leaked? I would check for mold colonies in places that could've gotten wet, and it is spreading from there. It could be behind a wall, or something like that that is not visible. But some of those types of spores are very dangerous.

Thanks for the advice. So far I have only found mold in 2 places. I live in a brick ranch that never had flood or leakage. I can't clean the glassware cabinet out with bleach because its and antique wood that had been refinished and poly sealed. The glass bowls are used for cereal once a day, rinsed and put into the dishwasher, that's the one that is a big mystery. The drinking glass may have been dirty and put away by accident. We don't use glasses from that cabinet very often.
