Yeah, also we sat right by the entrance and when my food came out everyone kept staring through the windows in the front, gawking at me with 3 sausages (and fries) on my plate. I felt a little bit like a zoo animal at that point, with people watching me feed. Didn't bother me that much since I ate it all pretty quickly.

Hot Doug's is temporarily closed due to the effects of the overnight thunderstorms. You can read more on the Tribune website here. They hope to re-open on Monday.

Hope they can get everything fixed up and re-opened soon!

FYI they were open yesterday (Monday) . . . and one of my faves among the semi-regular specials has had a slight update. The Atomic Dog is now a cheesy Atomic Dog:

We're hoping to hit Hot Doug's once more this summer, and tomorrow looks like the best candidate. But I know Fridays can get insane.

If we're in line at 10:15ish for a breakfast dog, are we in for a multi-hour wait? Have managed to go early in the day early in the week every other time in recent months, and had pretty minimal waits. Wondering if the duck-fat fries on Friday will bring out the hungry crowds, and would appreciate any advice...

We've done 10:15 twice on a Fri/Sat and got served by 10:45. Good luck, and order strong.

^^^Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem. When my sister and friend were in town a few Fridays ago (perfect weather, too), we arrived at about 10:45 and only waited about 30 minutes. By the time we were in the building though, the line was to the alley.

Thanks for the quick encouragement, we aimed to get there at 10:15 but ended up being there right about 10:00 because of quick trains and buses. We weren't first in line, and by 10:15 the line was past the brick part of the wall. We were eating by 10:40, and out by 11, and the line was definitely past the alley by then.

Great meal as usual! I had the Cognac-Infused Lamb and Pork Sausage with Spinach Raita and Goat Cheese and the Foie Gras and Sauternes Duck Sausage with Truffle Aioli, Foie Gras Mousse and Fleur de Sel. My wife had vegetarian versions of the Three-Chili Wild Boar Sausage with Sweet Jalapeno Mustard, Garlic-Cheddar Cheese Spread and Crispy Fried Onions and Garlic and Rosemary Smoked Chicken Sausage with Creamy Roasted Garlic Mustard and Smoked Provolone Cheese. Both very happy with our hot dog brunch.

    Hi,

I'm curious...what did they substitute for the Three Chile Wild Boar Sausage and the Rosemary Smoked Chicken Sausages?

That piqued my interest too. How does one have a vegetarian version of a sausage whose primary ingredient is boar or chicken?

Hot Doug's has a veggie dog...I bet they just used the soy dog and then put on all the toppings that go with the other sausages.

I got in pretty quickly for lunch today and tried the ribeye steak with albagh wine cheese, chimichurri, and fried onions. I didn't know what to expect from a "steak" sausage, but it was out of this world. Also got an Andouille, which was fantastic as well, although simple.

Last time I had the ribeye sausage, they had it with horseradish cream sauce, vintage farmhouse cheese and crispy fried onions and it was AMAZING. My favorite sausage there.

I need to try this again. It was the second Hot Doug sausage I ever had, back 4-5 years ago and I was underwhelmed. Sounds like I may have had a fluke.

I showed up at 11:40 and I took the pic at 12:08. Pretty quick, but no ball game today. The line was probably twice as long when I left as it was when I showed up.

Planning on going tomorrow morning when HD opens at 10:30 on the down low before I get to work. I say the DL because my husband will be tending to his parents and I don't want him getting possibly jealous of me getting a good Hot Doug's dog. I look at it as a treat for myself for all the nutiness the inlaws have caused since they have been in town the last two weeks. He's been, but I have never been and since we live blocks away, I figured I can go in my sweats at 10:30 and have the HD experience all to myself, eat it home, shower and get ready for work. Just wondered if there is much of a crowd Thursday mornings at opening time. Thanks to anyone in advance who can clue me in a bit as I am a bit clueless to HD.

So you're keeping your big secret by posting it on the internet? :)

Anyway, 10:30 on a Thursday should be just fine. There might be a few die-hards on line already, but it almost certainly won't be going down the block at that time.

I went to Hot Doug's today at 3:30pm - no line, walked right up to the counter with no wait at all.

Got my food to go...in and out in under 5 minutes!

Two things: My husband is the most illiterate internet surfer I know so he has zero clue how to even stumble onto LTH and Kajmac Johnson isn't my real name so that helps keep it a secret. Now if I happened to log onto Foursquare while at HD and shared my log in with Facebook, the whole internet world would surely know of my true deceit via my real idenity. So I am secure with the knowledge that he'll never know and it will still be my secret despite me talking about it on the internet. Yipee! Hot Doug's here I come.

    Thanks everyone!

I've been having food affairs (or as my wife likes to say "secret eating") since I moved to Chicago four years ago.

I just checked today's specials on their website, and can recommend the "cheesy atomic" if you love spicy food. The duck sausage never fails me, though it's too rich and over-the-top for some.
