Will be near Hartford, CT (technically, we'll be staying in Longmeadow, MA) for a week. Anyone know what's in the vicinity, foodwise? I've never been there and am geography challenged to begin with. We will be hosted there, and will be doing a certain amount of grilling in the yard, but if there's anything to really try to do (or to avoid), I'd love to know about it.

Deli-wise, stop in at the original Gus & Paul's in Springfield (http://gusandpauls.com/)...they have a new (well, okay, not so new now, but far newer) location downtown, but you want the one at 1209 Sumner Avenue (413-782-6629). I don't know about the non-deli but on the strength of the deli and the bakery, I'd guess that pretty much everything there is worth a try.

    Sadly, I can't help beyond that--but I can vouch for Gus & Paul's, a longtime outpost.

    Good luck!

PS I no longer remember names, but when I traveled to Hartford on business, I managed to find a number of excellent Italian places; I had no idea that the Italian population there was so large...or so good at running great (and inexpensive) restaurants.
