Blackbird is hosting a James Beard Foundation benefit dinner on Sunday, October 16h. This event starts with a cocktail hour at Publican (5:00 PM). A trolley will take the attendees to Blackbird at 6:30 where there will be a 6 course meal. Young chefs from around the country will be cooking. They are:

    Karen and John Shields
    Town House; Chilhowie, VA

    Sean Brock
    McCrady’s, Husk; Charleston, SC

    Jordan Kahn
    Red Medicine; Beverly Hills, CA

    David Posey and Bryce Caron
    Blackbird

I'm not familiar with Red Medicine or Husk, but I have heard from friends that Town House is amazing.

The event is $200 / person , but you can save $25 if you are a member of the James Beard Foundation (or you can join on their website). You can make reservations by calling Blackbird (312.715.0708) or visit their site blackbirdrestaurant.com for more details.

I'm looking forward to the event...it sounds fun.

This should be an amazing dinner - at least it has an amazing line-up of talent. Town House may be the best restaurant in America today for modernist post-molecular cuisine (excluding Alinea). Red Medicine (in LA) is excellent (I dined there in July), producing surprising renditions of Vietnamese-inspired cuisine, and McCready's and Husk are arguably the most serious modernist restaurants in the South (if one doesn't count Chilhowie, VA where Town House is located as being in the South).

Sometimes when chefs travel some of the glory of their creations are lost in new kitchens, but my suspicion is that this could be a very special evening.
Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik
