I've never tried making sauerkraut. Maybe I'll take a few heads and give it a try since I'll be going to see the folks a couple weeks later.

I think I've decided to go pumpkin. Now the question is: A simple, yet elegant Pumpkin Roll or Pumpkin-Cardamon Cupcakes with Orange-Honey Icing?

I would always vote in favor of cardamom anything. I would vote for cardamom for president.

Why not make a pumpkin roll with a bit of cardamom in it and a orange-honey glaze? Best of both worlds.

i vote 'cardomom' for president, also. if nobody minds another pumpkin dessert, i was planning to make a pumpkin-rum cheesecake. and if there are still decent, local tomatoes this weekend, i'll make tomato tart for dinner.... joan

I can't find Lyle's Golden Syrup or Sorghum syrup to save my life. There are a few places left I can try, but I have two backup pies if I can't find it: either Maple Buttermilk or Neapolitan Wheat Pie.

    HI,

You could easily substitute Karo syrup for Lyles and Molasses for Sorghum. I happen to have all four. If I find myself trotting to the city over the next few days, I'll hand you some sorghum and/or Lyle's.

i have some burton's sorghum syrup, if you wanted to come all the way over and pick it up, i'd be happy to share.... if you sub karo's syrup, i'd suggest dark, not light. (i always use dark when karo is called for-more flavor, IMO). joan

Cost Plus World Market carries Lyle's Golden Syrup. I would imagine that Fresh Farms or Mariano's might have it as well.

Yesterday I looked up both things on Cost Plus' website and it wasn't there. I also didn't see it at Fresh Farms, but who knows where it could be in there.

Apparently Meijer also has it, and I'll look at Fresh Farms for jowar (that apparently is the Indian sorghum syrup). Otherwise I'll skip the sorghum and use molasses.

I went to Fresh Farms and looked for juwar and they did not have it, so screw it. I bought something called Pure Golden Molasses from Mother Hubbard, which claims to be light and mild flavored, so I'll use that in place of the sorghum and a mix of light corn syrup and honey for the Lyle's.

I didn't think Cost Plus' website would be comprehensive enough to include all their products that are available in the store. I bought my last bottle of Lyle's there, and I liked that it came in a squeeze bottle. I was about to give up when I was looking for it, as it was not really obvious to me since I was looking for the glass jar.
