    Sometimes marked as citric acid.
Has anyone seen this on the shelves anywhere in our area?

I want to make sweet and sour cabbage soup and I have read recipes that call for this instead of lemon juice.

Places that carry Ziyad brand and other middle eastern food should have it--you should have no problem finding it at Fresh Farms or World Market on Devon, for example.

Fresh Farms did not have it, I was there this morning because I was sure it would be there.
If it was there in a package not marked in english, not only I missed it, but the customer service person who helped me did as well.
/Off to Spice House - thanks!

Besides spice house, any brewing or cheese supply store has it, like brew & grow. You can also order it online (shipping included) at thecheesemaker.com. I have no idea why a soup recipe would call for citric acid instead of lemon juice, but substituting it with lemon juice concentrate would be the closest to actually using citric acid.

I wonder if Penzeys might carry it also.

The Lincoln Park location has it as well. Look near the canning cars.

Try Ted's on Devon Avenue, or just about any grocery that caters to East Europeans - I've seen a lot of borsch recipes that call for it. (I usually just use vinegar.)

The Middle Eastern stores will have it labeled as citric acid. Ziyad Brothers bottles are labeled in English and Arabic. I have seen it in all the good-sized grocery stores on Kedzie in Albany Park including Andy's Fruit Ranch. Stores directed toward Eastern Europeans may use the sour salt name, but others will not have a clue about that name. Stores with more generalized audiences such as HarvesTime Foods stock citric acid in the same section as Middle East foods.

Produce World in Morton Grove has it (in the middle eastern section).

The Pita Inn Market on Dempster in Skokie has it, or at least they did when I bought some last year.

Pretty much any grocery store should have sour salt - if not in the spice aisle check the kosher section - stores I know that that will have it - Hungarians Kosher in Skokie, the Jewel on Howard in Evanston
