We drove by The Blue Angel (5310 N. Milwaukee, Chicago) tonight looking for an incredibly late night snack and all the windows were papered over. There was a confusing sign on the door that said: "Thanks for 30 years! We are putting a new face on an old restaurant. Come back mid-October..."

'Thanks for 30 years' doesn't sound like renovating to me. :(

sad to report this one, I dont drive this route often so today was the first time I saw the For Sale sign on the property.

Rockwell Inn in Morris has closed.

I enjoyed their lunch offerings, and having a beer at their historic wood bar which I believe was from the 1893 Worlds Fair.

I was sad to see that Peep's, a longtime landmark in Arlington Heights, has a "For Lease" sign up in front of a vacant building.

    Sign on the door of
My Pie Pizza and Li'l Guys Sandwiches in Northbrook...

It is with heavy hearts that we bring news of the closing of our Northbrook location. We have loved being a part of the Northbrook community for the last 2 1/2 years. Unfortunately, due to rising operational costs and a dwindling economy, we were unable to thrive as a restaurant should. Thank you for making us a part of your lives.

Please visit our Bucktown carry-out location at 2010 N. Damen (cross streets of Damen and MacLean, just north of Armitage) for our unique pizza and homemade sandwiches.

I saw that confusing sign and wondered, too. For what it's worth, there's a dumpster in back with remodeling-type refuse in it.

Really sorry to hear this. I was just thinking of going there as a nice fall Sunday drive.

According to my parents, Farmside Grocery & Winery in Long Grove is closed after 43 years. This has been a very depressing weekend for Pie Lady.

However, The Peppermint Stick is back after being replaced by Victoria's Mexican Grill.

There is also another restaurant going up in a barn-like structure, I believe near the covered bridge, that I can't picture.

I liked My Pie, both their deep dish and thin. But I have to admit, I haven't been there in a while. I don't eat out as much as I used to.

Totopo in Oakbrook is closed. They lasted about 6 months. I ate there a few times and it always seemed like it was going to be good based on the menu, but never was. I have never been to a mexican restaurant in which there was nothing spicy....i could never find anything.

I can't decide if this post is genuinely enthusiastic, or subtly (though bitingly) sarcastic. I kinda hope it's the latter, because if so, the brevity & superficial simplicity of this post belies its complexity & wit.

I thought that DMK Burger bar was supposed to be good, or at least interesting, since it is from Marcus Samuelson (sp?) who won Top Chef season 2 masters.....since I live in the western burbs I have read about it but never been. Now I can - it is just a few minutes away from where I live.

I am not that clever. I was saying it straight.

Michael Kornick of MK owns DMK (along with David Morton, son of Arnie Morton of Morton's), hence the name "DMK". Marcus Samuelsson owns MarcBurger, which is located at the Macy's stores on State Street and in Costa Mesa, California.

So bummed about Peeps! It was the lunch destination from Prospect High (1970s) when you got your drivers license. It competed for years against Lukes next door. (Lukes had the hot guys behind the counter and Peeps had the cheaper fare. Classic hot dog.

Hoanh Long (Lincoln Ave.) closed their small kitchen but the main restaurant is still there.

A friend of mine called the Al Wadi restaurant that was located at 4835 N Kedzie Ave in Albany Park. Seems that the number has been disconnected. He was under the impression that they moved and has no clue where. I searched the Comings and Goings and could not find anything and also searched the site for more info as to what happened but nothing comes up, not even a mention on the odious Yelp site of being closed. Wondering if anyone else who lives in the neighborhood knows if for sure they may have moved or are they gone for good. Any info I can pass along would be appreciated.

As Pie Lady reported in last quarter's thread, there is a Naf Naf Grill opening on Touhy in the Point Plaza strip mall right around the corner from Fresh Farms (and next to Starbucks). No date to report yet, but I noticed at lunch today that the signage was up. The below article from the Beacon News quotes a fall opening and also mentions 2 Chicago locations coming soon, which I had not previously heard about.

Sorry for the post without too much further detail, but I am quite excited...my office is right around the corner.
