Lana's is a danger to people like me.
The name of the place suits it perfectly; these desserts are like works of art. Many artful food creations are less tasty than beautiful, but no so with Lana's.
I was immediately taken back to my CHIC days when I saw the case of dacquoise cakes lined with joconde sponge, topped with mousse and brushed with glaze. Each was decorated elegantly with fruit, chocolate, and gold, in some cases. Many of the larger pieces were found in diminutive form as well.
I limited myself to six pieces. I tried the Ispahan Dessert in a Glass, which is the same as the Ispahan except that it is without the meringue layers and served in a dish. (Ispahan is described as: Two Parisian macaroons filled with rose flavored buttercream, lychees and fresh raspberries. Decorated with a rose petal.) It wasn't my favorite, but it's because I still can't get used to the taste of lychee.
The Black Currant (chocolate genoise cake gently soaked in cassis liqueur, layered with black currant mousse with fresh raspberries, surrounded by raspberry roulade slices and finished with a black currant glaze. Decorated with a lemon leaf, whipped cream rosette and fresh blackberry) and Chocolate Blackberry (chocolate flourless cake layered with chocolate and blackberry mousse, blackberry tea crème brûlée with fresh blackberries, and finished with chocolate ganache. Decorated with a fresh blackberry and striped chocolate plate) were incredible. The Passion Fruit (soft almond cake layered with passion fruit mousse, diced mango, lychees, and surrounded by colorful giaconda cake, finished with a passion fruit glaze. Decorated with fresh blueberries and white chocolate accents) was a nice, light dessert. I also tried their Cranberry Shortbread (two cakey shortbread squares with tart cranberry filling) and Fleur de Sel Chocolate Cookie (a nice, fat, ridiculously rich cookie) and enjoyed them both, although that cookie is really something best enjoyed with coffee or a big glass of cold milk; water didn't cut the mustard.
I'm sad that I didn't take pictures, but the website did a great job of capturing each item beautifully. My descriptions wouldn't do them justice. Lana's definitely deserves a look. They also sell coffee, gelato, and gluten-free sweets.

Would you say that this place is about the same as Ambrosia Euro American Patisserie in Barrington?

Wow, the selection on their website looks awesome, as good as the two very best places in Chicagoland for entremets (mousse-based pastries) - Vanille Patisserie and Alliance Bakery. I hadn't heard of this place; I gotta go check it out soon. Thanks for posting the recommendation!

Note - Lana's is closed Mondays.

I liked the macarons more than the cakes. I found the mousse cakes to be heavy on mousse. I prefer the cakes at Ambrosia Bakery more since the ratio of cake to mousse filling is more even. The macarons were really good.
