In re-reading my above post from yesterday, I have to admit that it comes off rather harsh (as do I on occasion, my apologies). Granted I haven't had the best luck in the last month or so but the good meals I've enjoyed @ LTH by far outnumber the avg meals. Being hypersensitive to the industry is my burden to carry and must remember not to foist it upon others (unless asked specifically). There was something off that nite, yes, but If I look back @ the many dishes I've enjoyed here throughout the last 5-6 yrs, my most recent experiences are an anomaly.

I also enjoyed this meal after probably a year since my last visit to LTH. Some dishes were bigger hits with me than others.

    - the clam dish was phenominal, Perfectly cooked clams, and a light, silky, rich sauce.

    - I also enjoyed the shrimp toast & crispy skin chicken.

it was nice to see share a meal with folks I havent seen in while.

To me what makes LTH a GNR is that they take dishes that other restaurants do not do very well, and treat them with exceptional respect. The clams is a particularly good example with sauce that in other hands can be gloppy. Or shrimp toast that can in other hands be soggy. Or salt-and-pepper shrimp than can be bready.

LTH is not my favorite Chinese restaurant (I prefer Sun Wah or Lao Sze Chuan or Katy's), but it reminds me how excellent Cantonese food can be in caring hands.
Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik
