Frozen Sea Scallops at Costco

The other day Costco had a 21/2 lb. bag for $ 10.99 a lb.
Talked with the Meat Manager about chemicals & preservatives in them. There was nothing on the bag. He checked in the freezer, nothin on the box. They state they are a US product.
In other words DRY PACK Sea Scallops.

Anyone ever try them? Sautee for only 2-3 minutes, each side until golden brown? Tender sweet & juicy???

They are not treated with sodium tripolyphosphatr=e according to this article in Costco Connection magazine:

I have lately been purchasing my dry pack sea scallops at Grash's in Milwaukee, fresh not having been frozen, usual price is in the $20-$30 range but on sale at $18.99/# last Thursday. Had them package the scallops, 6/container about U10 size. I have to confess to freezing a container. The unfrozen scallops caramelized excellently and were some of the best I have eaten.
I have not tried the Costco, no Costco in Wisconsin but what happens when you freeze any product is moisture loss upon thawing evidenced by residual water.
I certainly would like to lower my cost for scallops, glad they worked out!-Dick

Have you tried Empire Fish in Milwaukee? Similar pricing, probably the same scallops, If you go with the 10/20 its 15 bucks a pound.

Grafton would be about 65miles away. Pewaukee is about 45 miles away so on Oct 27, I guess I will go if in the area.
I will have to look at Empire Fish. Problem is that these places are usually just not very good despite their hype. I will stop and let you know what i think. Thanks for the suggestions.-Dick

Sunset Foods, 5 locations in the northern suburbs has dry scallops on sale up to and including. Wed 11-19-11.
Price $ 14.99 per lb. Not frozen
I had them 4 weeks ago, when on sale. DELICIOUS!!!
If you don't like what's in the case, ask them to get them from the back.

I appreciate your calling attention to this sale; I am looking at the Sunset flyer that I went through yesterday, and the special on scallops had escaped my notice.
