GAF and I will be finding out what all the fuss is about at Aroy Thai on Thursday night, November 3, at 7 PM. We'd love to have some LTHer dining companionship. The secondary reason is that this will increase our "ordering power," as they say. The primary reason is that it will be fun to spend some time with the first 6 of you who say yes. (We're aiming for a party of 8 altogether.) So, say yes.

Woohoo! I'll actually be in town for this one! A tentative yes +1, depending on how the schedule shakes out.

We'll expand the party to 10 from the originally planned 8, to make room for all who have replied.

Hi, nr. Much as I hate to say it, I think you're at the top of the wait list. (Well, I like that you're at the top of the wait list, but I wish there didn't have to be a wait list.)

To jv: I'll keep everyone informed, and move people off the wait list as opportunities arise.

    Hi,

It appears the waitlist could make themselves a second party at this restaurant.

    HI,

THInk of this as the LTH Christmas Eve in Chinatown, Gather at tables, order your food as your group feels.

    No need to sneer!

If a second table forms, I only ask the favor that whoever of the second group calls Aroy to make the reservation, please make clear to the proprietor that you are a second and different group than the group they already have a reservation for. I can see confusion on that score unless that's made explicit.

A related concern but not the same...Never having been to Aroy, I don't know whether they will be overwhelmed by two very large parties at the same time. Those who have been would be in a much better position to evaluate that than I. I'm all for having two groups from a "more the merrier" perspective--it could be a blast--but I would like to hear from an Aroy fan whether in his or her judgment that seems prudent. If so, bring it on! :)

Aroy isn't that big, and two large groups wouldn't even be able to sit in the same room (one would be in the room where you walk in and the other would be seated in the room near the kitchen). My personal opinion is that both groups would be better served by scheduling the 2nd group on a different night.

I agree Steve. And besides the seating issue, you'd be forcing them to cook a very large amount of food at the very same time for what could turn out to be close to 20 people - a huge task. They don't have a large kitchen or staff and I believe this would negatively affect the experience for all.

I awoke w/the same thoughts stated above. You'll bury the kitchen w/20 or so people ordering off the menu in a short timeframe. The only way I could see it not being a clusterf**k would be to prearrange the menus so they know what they'd have to deal with, with plenty of advance notice. Suggest another night or @ least stagger it by 90 mins or so.

Ok, I'll go back to waiting for the first group. I've never been, so some of those concerns didn't cross my mind. 2 large groups doesn't sound like the best idea.
