There will probably be a line, but it moves quickly. I've never waited more than 20 minutes or so on a busy day.

But Northwestern is playing at home (v. Penn St.) but not til 6:00 in case that factors into your decision...

This weekend is Homecoming so I'm pretty sure it's going to be crazy.

Can you call an order ahead or don't they do that for large orders?

I haven't been there on a weekend. During the week, there's no wait till about 11:40, then there's a line roughly 11:40-12:20, then there's no line after that.

Note that they close 4 pm and are open both weekend days, but closed Mondays.

hey all! thanks for the interest.

    FYI:

yes, this weekend is homecoming. the new 6pm start time on the football games seems to have led to us being even busier all day long on saturday. probably not the best saturday to get in and out without too much wait or dealing with crowds.

we are generally wide open before noon on weekdays. there's usually a short (15-20 minute) wait to order during primetime on weekdays (12:00-1:30), and you'll wait another 10-12 minutes to get your food. before 12 noon and after 2pm are usually wide open on weekdays. and, yes, as steve noted, the line usually moves fairly quickly and it's rare than anyone waits more than 20 minutes in line before placing their order, even during peak times.

weekends, the line starts to form a bit earlier (11:00-11:30) and goes later.

we do take phoned in pick-up orders, whether big or small, but when the line is very long we do not accommodate the phone orders because it's not fair to those waiting in line. so that's kind of hit or miss, but, generally, if you call prior to noon or after 2-2:30, we're happy to accept your pick-up orders over the phone. the burgers travel well and won't suffer from a 15 minute ride back to work. the fries probably won't be super hot and crispy after a 15 minute ride, but they'll still be pretty good. and, as someone mentioned, you can call your order in, pick it up, and then simply sit down, open your bag and dine in if you like. any time you call in a pick up order over the phone, you can forgo the line and walk right up to the register.

hope this was helpful. thanks again for the interest!

That's a pretty extensive breakdown of expected wait times, so thanks... I don't mind waiting (although I draw the line at places like Kuma's) but my curiosity has been sufficiently sated.

happy_stomach and I made the very short trip to Edzo's this past Tuesday. Went my usual route of ordering a slagel 4oz with a fried egg and garlic fries.

At the time of this visit, Eddie was all out of pumpkin for his pumpkin pie shake. I was told he would be receiving more the next day...so...I came back, and I'm very glad I did. I was worried it would be too sweet, but it was a nice mix of sweet and salty with some doughy chunks of crust. Eddie said he usually runs out within 3 or so days, so do yourself a favor and get one while it's there.

Ahem, new lunch buddy: I like pumpkin shakes, too.

I love how the orange and green tones look in those photos.

On our visit, I tried the portabella sandwich for the first time. Vegetarian sandwiches are often so overdone--not this one. Loved the use of peppers particularly. I also had a spicy chocolate shake. The half that I didn't spill on our table was very good.

I had lunch at Edzo's on Tuesday with a couple co-workers. I had the small patty melt w/fried egg, truffle fries and a salted caramel shake. The patty melt was cooked medium and was nice and juicy, although the fried egg was a bit overcooked. I like the runny yolk almost as its own burger condiment, but this was cooked close to hard. The truffle fries I always find a tad too salty, but I still order them every time, which might tell you how much I enjoy them. In fact, they were the consensus favorite fries at the table. The salted caramel shake was really terrific. I usually get the nutella shake, but if the salted caramel is a special it is a must order for me. Rich and creamy, but had enough salt to break up the sweetness.

My co-workers were very happy with the lunch spot and told me that we're going here more often for lunch.

I ate there today, and had my usual flame broiled burger. Yum! I got the regular fries, and they were somewhat on the salty side, but otherwise very good. The shakes - oh, the shakes! I had a vanilla malt. They had three special shake flavors today: salted caramel, mexican chocolate, and a third one I forget. They also offered three different upgrades on the meat in the burgers: Tallgrass (from Kansas), Shlagel (from Illinois), and a third one from Illinois whose name I forget but contained a three-letter acronym. (I know, with my inability to remember three things, I'm starting to sound like a certain politician! :) ) Edzo's is such a very special place!

Incidentally, I was somewhat surprised to find virtually all the tables occupied despite the hour (around 1:30). Based on the crowd, that appears to depend on whether or not Northwestern is in session.

I've taken my almost-six-year-old daughter a couple times after Religious School. Found out she loves garlic fries - as I ordered her usual Cheese Fries and myself Garlic Fries and she made me switch.

I'm generally not a huge fan of Carmel flavor in general - so I ordered the Hot Fudge Sundae and she ordered the Salted Carmel Shake - I must say - the Salted Carmel is the single best milk shake I've ever had in my entire life.

The kids meals are a big plus - she loves the Corn Dog. This place is a definite winner!

Hm. I'm in a cheeseburger mood and was debating whether I should go to WASC (my preferred fries) or Edzo's (milkshakes!). This salted caramel shake might be the clincher, though. It sounds amazing.

I got the brownie sundae which had, no exaggeration, two tablespoons of custard under a massive hunk of dry brownie. It was still pretty good, but definitely not what I was hoping for.

My already-high respect for Eddie Lakin, a.k.a. Edzo, jumped even higher after reading his blog about an incident with an abusive customer and how he handled it:

    chicagomatic: I'm hot

I agree with all the commenters so far - 19 out of 19 who support Eddie's actions (and some who would have gone further).

This makes me want to visit Edzo's even more frequently - to support Eddie, as well as to hope for a sighting of the Rude Woman to tell her where to go.

It also reminds me of another great blog story, about how Michael handled an abusive customer at his eponymous restaurant. I don't know what rock these miscreants live under, but I wish they would crawl back under it!
