He was under the impression that they moved and has no clue where. I searched the Comings and Goings and could not find anything and also searched the site for more info as to what happened but nothing comes up, not even a mention on the odious Yelp site of being closed. Wondering if anyone else who lives in the neighborhood knows if for sure they may have moved or are they gone for good. Any info I can pass along would be appreciated.

I swung by on my bike yesterday around 2PM and the place was not open-- dark and locked. I looked in the window and there was no furniture inside. There was no note or sign on the door to indicate a move or potential re-opening. Sorry!

I think it used to be a disco many years ago, but it sounds like they had a leaky roof and some water damage, which is being fixed.

From a business owner in the 45th who is also on Milwaukee Ave., who is usually pretty accurate with their neighborhood "gossip".

Just saw a sign - the old Napa Auto Parts store at 2424 Dempster in Evanston will be a new home for Chicago's Chicken & Waffles. I'm skeptical of the location.

Yeah, I would have thought they could easily find space just a few blocks away at Dempster and Dodge.

Drove by Tore's Beef yesterday at Armitage & Western. Closed sign - says will re-open as Al's Beef.

That's too bad. Tore's wasn't the best around (I like Jays better) but they were always a solid reliable stop for me when I didn't want to venture too far into Hipsterville for Jays.

Actually, that intersection is not Armitage and Western, it is Western, Diversey and Elston. This is very close to my house and Mr. KajmacJohnson and I used to go here quite frequently about four to five years back. Their beef used to be pretty good and solid until a year or two ago, it seemed that management or ownership had changed because the same folks that had been working the counter every time we went were gone as was the quality. Suddenly the beef became quite anorexic and generally not very good, the fries (which were never anything special) got worse and were caked in old grease and once about a year ago I had a slice of the pizza which was absolutely disgusting. Prices had gone up as well. Then they suddenly closed. Not really all that surprised. It is too bad because at one point this was a good close by spot for us to get italian beef since our choices around the house point blank suck.

weird. Most times if the mood sets in I'd know the "closest" place with a decent sangwich. But if I was at that intersection I'd be kind of stumped.

    Drive to Susies

I will never under any circumstances set foot into Susie's again as long as Beef and Burger across is in business. This is our go to place for beef and much better than Tore's ever was. Plus the fries are heaven.

Too far from the house as it is not in our immediate area but I grew up not far from Max's and have been seeing it for years but have never set foot inside. Gotta give it a chance.

I just read in the Chicago magazine "Domestica" e-newsletter that City Olive, 5408 N. Clark, will be closing on October 16. It's been mentioned several times on the board as a good resource. According to the blurb, the owner is looking for a new location and the online store will remain open.

Siunik Armenian Grill has opened in Glenview at the former location of Fredhots N Fries. It is a a Chipotle like in set up where you have a choice of a wrap or a plate, and you walk down the counter as they build you meal . Main courses or fillings are either lula kabob(90% ground beef and 5% each of ground chicken and pork), Chicken Kabob, steak kabob, or pork kabob. There is also a vegetarian option. You then get pilaf, a choice from 3, a choice of 3 sauces, and a topping or 2 or 3 which are salads. The chicken was tasty as were most of the accoutrements, but portions for the plate were not huge. I will try it again, but go for a wrap which seems like a better value at $6.60 vs $8.60 for the plate.

According to chicago.eater.com, it sounds like you may still be able to get the lobster bisque at the fish market during the day:

"When Wellfleet opens, it'll still be a fish market during the day and will retain its daily lunch menu, which features items like lobster rolls, the clamwich, grilled rare tuna and fish tacos. The biggest change will come with the new nightly dinner service, which will step things up a little with servers, some pizzas (traditional white pizza with clams; smoked salmon pizza) and, of course, fresh seafood. To start, it'll be BYO and they hope to add a very limited selection of wine and beer. When asked why they were making the change, the staffer said it was to fill a need for more dining options in the area."

Good news overall. I've enjoyed their tuna tacos for lunch when I'm nearby. Certainly not a "classic" version but a great value and generally delicious. I've never made it to one of their monthly dinners in the past but I'd like to try it now.

Ubaa is definitely gone for good. Though the hand written sign on the door indicating a temporary closure is still up, as of today there is now a gigantic FOR LEASE sign on the side facing Crawford Ave. Sad.

Also, the Indian resto on the corner of Howard and Dodge (formerly a Thai place, and before that, a diner-ish joint) is now closed.
