So this evening my daughter asked me to get large sugar cookies to decorate for their service club's Halloween party activity on Monday at her high school.

Any suggestions where we could get hold of these, fast, and not terribly expensively? I've not seen sugar cookies at Costco, otherwise I'd just do that.

    TIA

I bet you could call Cookies by Design or one of those types of places and ask for naked cookies. I'm not sure how much they would cost, though.

    HI,

Why doesn't she bake them herself as part of her service club function?

    Regards,

Unfortunately, it's going to mean calling and checking, but I think I've seen plain sugar cookies (albeit smallish) at Bennisons, NY B&B, and Tag's in Evanston.

    Bennisons
    1000 Davis Street Evanston, Illinois.
    847-328-9434.

New York Bagel & Bialy (and I think they outsource their bakery stuff, so ask if their baker offers one)
    4714 W Touhy Ave
(between Keating Ave & Kilpatrick Ave)
    Lincolnwood, IL 60712
    (847) 677-9388

    Tag's
    2010 Central St
    Evanston, IL 60201
    (847) 328-1200

I'm guessing any bakery that offers iced cookies will probably offer them plain as well.

I've done similar activities with kindergarten-aged kids & we simply used round sugar cookies from one of the big grocery stores (Jewel or Dominick's, can't remember which). No special order required, they seem to be readily sold in containers of one or two dozen.

Just to clarify, is she looking for cookies in Halloween shapes or will any shape do?

Try going to just about any Mexican panaderia. They almost always have plain sugar cookies in the case...often in several diferent colors.

Pretty sure they could handle your request, esp w/a day's notice at Jarosch's in Elk Grove Village.

I second this idea. The last few years, I've made sugar cookies for decorating for a neighborhood organization using a recipe I think foodie1 posted here (which of course I can't find now). Few ingredients, easy and quick. With a friend or two, we knock out 12 dozen in an evening.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I've forwarded them to my daughter. She and her friends have worked everything out, thankfully they don't need to use MY kitchen!
