With the recent flurry of activity around deal-of-the-day websites like Groupon, there has been an uptick in LTH thread bumps consisting only of external links to a transient discount or deal, with minimal description.

On the plus side, this can revive dormant discussions and drive interest in and potential visits to many wonderful restaurants and culinary services. Supporting these operations and conversations is a big part of our community culture.

On the other side, comments with external-only content are (generally) not encouraged here. The specific deals are mostly temporary, and often the links themselves expire or redirect. With as many industry professionals as LTH has (and benefits from) in our membership, we also occasionally run into potential conflicts of interest, in this type of comment and in general.

We therefore believe it is easier and more advisable at present to house coupon comments in this thread on the Professional Forum, and we have been moving them in that direction for the past few months. This keeps them in one place, avoids diluting the dedicated threads, and offers less of a chance of a commercial or personal advantage from use of the links. We don't plan to clean up such posts retroactively and completely, and are not removing recent examples which also contain insightful commentary and relevant firsthand experiences.

Please help us by posting your great deal finds here. Anecdotes suggest most posters looking for coupons on their favorite spots (or new entries on the scene) are all over other social media as it is. If you do choose to post a deal link in a dining thread, at least provide some context and a recent or otherwise relevant report and it might not be moved.
