 My friend and I were just arguing about pot roast. I say pot roast is great stuff, unlike beef stew. She claims it's the same thing, and both are great, and how could I not like beef stew? It was quite a discussion.

I am VERY sad to have to drop out of this month's exchange :(
I double-booked myself AND have no room in my freezer AND am going out of town for 10 days a few days later. I am also sad I will miss everyone's food and company this month but look forward to seeing you all in January.

I think I'm out. Sorry, I wasn't clear. I'm not able to attend. I decided that since the fridge was acting funny, I better take a pass.

On a separate note, who adores their refrigerator, because we are beginning to face the fact that we will probably have to purchase a new one by the 1st quarter of 2012, if the current one makes it that long.

Beef Stew and Pot Roast are different things. Yes. Absolutely.
When I was a kid I used to love Beef Stew and hate Pot Roast. I have learned better.

Are we at seven portions to bring? I assume that when Pairs says that she thinks she is out, she is saying that she won't be able to join us this month.

    Hi,

Sorry for losing track, yes it is seven portions. If you made more, bring it because maybe we can trade extras.

Reservations are made for 12 (actually we seem to be 11) at 7 pm under Cathy.

Apologies for my mismatched containers. I did go to two stores with a two year old! You are more than welcome to give me back the containers, and Cathy, yes, perhaps I could reimburse you for a set next time if there is a plethora of that brand and size in your vicinity. Is anyone up for Smak Tak for January 10 or 17? I can take the helm this time if no one objects.

Sorry I missed everyone this month and hope to be back in January but probably not up for smack tak since we were just there for the GNR discussion dinner (and it was a VERY heavy meal). Anyone up for middle eastern maybe (would love to try al bawadi--Is that too far?

I'd prefer Smak Tak since I haven't been there in years and Al Bawadi is too far for me on a weeknight. But if majority rules, I have no problem bowing out and joining in February.

Thanks all for the lovely night out! I brought the carrot soup and scone today for lunch...although the scone might not make it that long.

    HI,

Smak Tak or Laschets is fine. If we went to Al Bawadi, why not shift the exchange to a weekend.

If we do go to Laschets, could we put the beer on a separate tab?

    Cathy2

It seems to me that Al-Bawadi would make an excellent "Event" meal, but because of its distance (particularly in January!), it perhaps would not ideal for the Small Household Food Exchange. If the weather is not ideal, food exchangers might bow out or might not sign up. So I worry about a restaurant on the far SW side for the food exchange. Laschett's seems like a good choice for January.

But I endorse the idea of a shared dinner at Al-Bawadi. Boudreaulicious, choose a date that works for you and post an invitation.

Pie Lady, this morning I felt the scone was not as light and flaky as I would have liked. Much better warm out of the oven.

Laschet's sounds good, but what date do you all prefer? January 10 or 17? Or another?

I'm sure anyone who wanted could buy beer at the bar, rather than the table, if they won't put it on a separate tab.

    Hi,

Since this will be in January, why not plan for the first date. If there is a very serious snow event, we could meet on the second date instead.
