I just had breakfast with friends whose Thanksgiving guests included four vegetarians, one person who eats meat but no dairy, and another who eats meat but no wheat. Not to mention the ex-husband and his new wife, who talked about going on the Dr. Phil show to talk about her tendency to bite during sex. And the slightly demented grandmother who kept waving her wine glass for more. They insist that a good time was had by all!

cane sugar isn't vegan, beet sugar generally is. good luck finding a brand of sugar that advertises itself as beet sugar, though.

One way around the vegan sugar thing is to use agave. Or the raw orange-cranberry relish without sugar.
Man : I can't understand how a poet like you can eat that stuff.
    T. S. Eliot: Ah, but you're not a poet.
