"If you love corn and you hate grits, then you haven't had them done correctly", I was told after declaring my intense aversion to grits. It started many years ago when I was shipped off to a summer camp in rural Georgia (cue "Dueling Banjos" music - it was really just like Deliverance) The only thing for breakfast was gooey, foul grits. Where were the Frosted flakes? Sugar Pops? Cocoa Puffs?

So the other day I was given stern instructions: Buy fresh, stone-ground grits from Hoppin' John. Make shrimp with grits a.k.a. breakfast shrimp a.k.a. grits with shrimp gravy. Use the best shrimp, bacon, cheese, butter, etc. If I didn't like this then there would be no hope for me.

Nothing else to say but "Wow". And "OMG". I have been converted!

Funny because I went to summer camp in Georgia (Camp Coleman on Rt. 129 between Cleveland and Blairsville--not sure if it was deliverance country exactly but it was pretty much in the middle of nowhere). And I LOVE grits because I first had them there and it became one of my favorite meals--sometimes I went with butter and salt; others, it was butter and jelly (not sure this is a recommended preparation but I adored it)--yes, they became gelatinous and molded to the plastic camp plates if you didn't eat it pretty quick but it's still a fond food memory from childhood. As they say, different strokes :P

mhill, I'm jealous of your yield! My sprouts are still super tiny, I don't have any even moderate-sized bulbs on any of my three plants. Not sure what went wrong this year. Yours are gorgeous.

A friend made some really good smoked sausage, so we made sandwiches for the Bears game today. Sausage, fried onion and shallot, mustard and gruyere on seeded rye. They were really good.

I have high hopes for B&B, but I keep hearing that voice in my head saying, "You can't go home again."
