Not a restaurant but the Caputo's store in Palatine has a wood burning oven that is used for pizza. I have not tried a pizza.

I almost hesitate to mention this place because of our last dining experience there, but Affresco Pizzeria and Lounge in Uptown Park Ridge has a wood-burning oven, and I have been told that their pizzas, especially the margherita, are the best items on the menu. Perhaps we should have ordered pizza on our last visit; my husband had a seafood stew with some really bad mussels in it, and I had a delicious trout preparation; however, I actually became physically ill in the middle of the night, which I can only attribute to the food, although nothing tasted amiss with my dish.

A lot of people I know really like Affresco; we haven't been back yet.

Two pizzerias out in the western burbs:

    Cotto A Legna
500 S. Third Street, Unit 147, Geneva, IL
They just opened, no official website yet:

Also, I believe Braxton's Seafood, which is in the process of moving to a new location in/near Oak Brook, has a wood fired oven and/or grill. I think Tuscany in Oak Brook also fits the bill...

I've had the pizza twice and it is pretty good.
Thou, I had to ask for extra char the second time.

FWIW, the oven is wood and gas fired

I ate at the Wildfire in Glenview a few weeks ago, and kinda accidently walked through the kitchen (coming back from the WC). It strongly looked to me like all the fires were generated by gas.

Great Neighborhood Restaurant Gaetano's in Forest Park has a number of excellent wood-fired items.

Trattoria 225 in Oak Park also has a nice wood-fired oven, and a tendency to cinderize things in it. Occasionally, they turn out a winner, though.

We have had some very good woodcfired dishes and pizzas at Bella Bacinos in LaGrange. A plus this time of year is how charming the strip in LaGrange I'd for the holidays

This is one of those questions where I just want to know why you're interested. Any particular type of restaurant you're looking for?

If you are in the west suburbs, a drive to Basils Greek Dining is a must. The flatbreads that come out of the wood burning oven are borderling orgasmic. The oven is visible to all in the dining room. Usually is on for dinner services, call ahead if you are going for lunch.

There are two in Elmhurst and one in Lombard (at least)

Angelo's (my choice) and Pazzi di Pizza, mentioned in the interest of fairness.

Also in downtown Lombard: Bricks, formerly Brix.
