I just placed my order for La Foret's Winter Allocation! It's pricey! Including shipping to Chicago, it's $94! For 25 pieces! But pretty to look, and amazing to eat!

    And very nicely wrapped!

La Foret is owned by Wendy Sherwood, a former pastry chef de partie at The French Laundry. And she supplies Benu with the chocolate that they serve at the end of the meal! If you're interested, I can PM you the link for purchase. :)

We're pleased to offer you La Forêt's Winter 2011 allocation. For the holidays, Wendy designed a special a 25-piece offering that includes a number of new flavors and a few old favorites. From Mexican Hot Chocolate and Mugo Pine, to Smokehouse Almond and our classic Salted Butter Caramel, we hope these treats add a special touch to the time you spend with family and friends.

We will honor orders placed between now and Friday, December 9, 2011 on a first come, first served basis. Because of your past history with us, we are pleased to offer you the chance to send additional allocation boxes as gifts to family, friends and colleagues.

Each 25-piece allocation box is $72 plus shipping & handling. Please click here to go to the order page on our website. If you would like to order multiple allocations for gifts, please click here to send us an email and we will send you an invoice through PayPal. As always, feel free to call us at 707-255-1787 if you have any questions. Orders picked up at our Napa retail location do not incur shipping or handling fees, so if you've been looking for an excuse to visit Napa Valley, here you go!

For your security, your order will be processed through PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account to place an order. Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions.

Best is slightly subjective, as it also depends on the type of chocolate your mother likes. Expensive dark chocolate is a waste if she hates dark chocolate & won't eat it. I don't care Vosges myself.

If you want to go all out, consider Richart http://www.richart-chocolates.com/chocolates/

    or http://www.richart-chocolates.com/choco ... -chocolate

I'm personally a sucker for Teuscher truffles. Here's a couple of options

    Also consider Canady

They make gorgeous custom boxes of exquisite handmade chocolates made at their Chicago store (there's a thread here somewhere on lth).

I adore Belgian Chocolatier Piron in Evanston. They've been making the chocolate in-house for decades now.

We shipped it, on dry ice, to Maui for our wedding 10 years ago this month. It's that good and I don't even like chocolate that much.

    Here's a thread.

I'll second Piron. Some of the best I've ever had that wasn't hand made for me.
I used to think the brain was the most important part of the body. Then I realized who was telling me that.

I highly recommend my friend, Erika, at The Chocolate Season http://www.thechocolateseason.com/cart.html

Or, for big name chocolate, Christopher Elbow of KC or Norman Love (i've never atually eaten Love's)
