Cookie Tins/Containers/Packaging for Gifts

Okay, so I have the most difficult person in the world to buy for and I think I've settled on baking an assortment of cookies and filling a tin/container for her. She doesn't eat much so I might as well have nice tins/containers to fill and gift to others with the remaining cokies.

Where would I find something non-garish and not necessarily Christmasy?

PS Mods please move this if in my cursory search I missed the answer to this question.

I would try the Container Store, possibly Cost Plus World Market. Maybe even a dollar store?

The Target "one spot" which is usually right by the entrance had cute take-out style containers. They were bright colors but not necessarily Christmas. I think they have tins with the holiday stuff as well. I know I saw tins at the Big Lots on Dempster in Morton Grove.

In addition to the previously mentioned, you might also want to check out Michaels or JoAnn .

You can definitely find them at the Container Store and Michael's (at least you could in past years). But I think they might get just one load in for the holidays and they do sell out of certain sizes and the more colorful ones early.

I was at Pier I today and saw a number of decorative boxes and containers. Target has a number of them also and I will third or fourth the Container Store suggestion.

Definitely the Container Store has quite a selection. Just be sure to look in multiple places for non-holiday colors and themes. We spent quite a bit of time looking for just the right size box for our "al trunko" car box for the LTH party raffle gift, so I have a very clear idea of their stock.

I doubt I need more than a dozen, do the sell by less than the case?

Unfortunately, I think the smaller tins only come in cases of 24. The larger canisters come in 6 and 12.

edit:

On closer examination, most of the 5C tins which are 9.9" X 3.5" come in cases of 12. That seems like a good cookie size.

I'm the biggest whore for Etsy.com. They're usually pretty quick with shipping too.

If it doesn't have to be a container, you can find really pretty plates at Marshalls,
Crate and Barrel, and Pier 1 for less than $10, some of them less than $5,
and then the plate becomes part of the gift.

And Ross and TJ Maxx and Homegoods.

I've had good luck in the past finding tins and such at resale shops (like Salvation Army or Goodwill) although that's going to be completely hit or miss.

My local dollar store (Ashland & Archer) has tons of tins, gift bags, and gift sets complete with labels and ribbon, all for $1 apiece. I am not too classy to admit that I stocked up.

jo-ann fabrics has tons of inexpensive tins that you can buy individually. some are definitely a little tacky, but there are nice ones and you can probably find ones that are wintery and not just christmas-y.

My wife and I were in Menard's yesterday and they had various sized tins. Some were Christmas themed but others were more wintery themed.

Like irisarbor said, a dish as part of the gift works too. We filled some coffee mugs with rum balls and are giving those to some work people.
