    LTH shoppers,

I need a huge favor. I'm looking for jalapeño jelly, Knott's Berry
Farm preferably, either type, red of green.(I have a feeling that Fresh Farms has it)
I put it on an upcoming menu, and none of my local suppliers
    carry it.

Thanks so much! Happy holidays. Evil Ronnie

    Athena,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I need it in a few days,
so there's no time for mail order. I suppose I could try infusing
fresh jalapeños into a fruit jelly of some sort if I have to.

Dear Evil One, check Treasure Island on Ridge Road in Wilmette. Call first. They usually have both the red and the green.

Now please let us know what you are using this great product for!

Try Kmart. They carry Knott's Berry products & might have the jalapeno.

Also Stonewall Kitchen carries an Apple Jalapeno jelly & Wholefood's carries that brand, so might have it, so might Treasure Island.

    Hi Athena,

Thanks for your help. Today, I found some made by American Spoon Foods today at the Whole Foods location on Huron. And as I expected, it's quite a bit better than the Knotts Berry Farm version. It's packing a nice amount of heat with not only bits of chilies, but seeds as well as in the jelly.

We do a very old fashioned Texas style canape with cream cheese, lightly baked on rounds of white bread. We also have two Duroc pork loins for our holiday brunch next Sunday, and a pepper jelly glaze is sounding good to me.

    It's really easy to make.

    Pepper jelly

1 cup finely chopped red bell pepper
    1/2 cup finely chopped jalapenos
    5 cups sugar
    1-1/2 cups apple-cider vinegar
    1 6-ounce container liquid pectin

In a 5-quart pot over high heat, bring the bell peppers, jalapenos, sugar and vinegar to a rolling boil; boil for 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool for 5 minutes.

Stir in the pectin and let the mixture continue to cool for 2 minutes more. Stir for 1 minute.

Pour into hot, sterilized jars and cap with sterilized lids. I usually let it go at that, but the USDA would probably advise a boiling water bath for shelf-stable storage.

If you Google, you can also find freezer-jam versions.

Thanks LAZ, but working two weeks at a stretch without a day off for the last
three months, I won't be making jelly this week.

Outstanding fruit jams, with just he right dose of habanero peppers, can be bought online from the Hixton Blue Collar Café. Or, you can take a drive up I94 and stop in at the restaurant. It’s located between Tomah and Eau Claire.

Flavors include Blueberry, Raspberry, Strawberry and Orange-Pineapple.

Great flavor with a habanero zing. Wrap your lips around a bacon/jelly sandwich or toast up some of the pletzel (round, flat bread with poppy seeds) from NY B&B and lay on a thick layer of habanero jam and cream cheese (or cheddar or…).
