It was a frozen Grandessa product. I thought it was quite good - but I am also living in central Indiana, deprived of anything resembling good pizza :)

Oh ok. Thanks for clearing that up. Have you ever tried the take and bake pizza in the regular refrigerated section? I bought a similar product at Sam's Club and it was pretty good and I have noticed for a while the same thing at Aldi's for less so I am wondering if it is good or at least decent.

I don't know, but I will be happy to get one on my next trip and fill you in!

Thanks! I may end up doing it myself soon so if I get and heat one up before anyone here does, I'll let everyone know if it is worth it or not. :D

Hi- I am just curious as to whether the cheap pizzas at Aldi's are any good. I am talking about the ones that range from $2-$4. I think the $4 ones might be Reggio. Anybody tried them?
    Thanks, Nancy

I was doing some Google work and came here through a search for some Aldi's Quattro Formaggio pizza. I loved it!!! The Roquefort and Goat's Milk cheese slices were awesome. I'm glad nobody was home and that I didn't have to share the pizza. The crust is average, nothing special.

I review a lot of things.. food, restaurants, video games, music, whatever.. and have a post on my blog with Aldi reviews.. but this pizza was so good I made a separate post on it. It's really the cheeses that made it that good. If you care to see any of my other reviews: http://theshortreviews.blogspot.com/201 ... rkets.html

I'll take a look around the website, as I'll admit I only came here to discuss the Aldi's pizza, but I see you're a culinary chat site and I love to cook. I'm a 38 year old man and I do ALL the cooking at home. I'm actually going to search for some kind of recipe I can use roquefort cheese in tonight for dinner because that pizza had me craving it.

Ok, so I went back to Aldi's today. The take and bake pizza is a Mama Cozzi brand. I saw the Quatro pizza. I flirted with both but in the end got neither. Perhaps next week.

Anyhoot, they got the holiday coffee out and there are three blends: Mint Mocha, Gingerbread and White Chocolate. I was curious whether anyone has tried any of those. Would love to hear if they are any good.

Also, every year around Christmas I heart those gingerbread chocolate covered heart cookies. So delicious!

Back in the day, the mama cozzi frozen pizza from aldi was nigh-indistinguishable from tombstone. yet another aldi house brand, though, so who knows how it is now.

Dang, couldn't find the pizza, so no taste test as promised :x I picked up a Mama Cozzi's, which may suck, but my expectations for frozen pizza are really, really low, so I'll probably like it.

No camembert, but - score! - President brie! I'm making baked brie for a party this weekend, so the $3 wedges saved me some money.

Hi- I was in Aldi's on Friday with someone who wanted some of their Christmas coffee. All they had in the Evanston store was one bag of white chocolate coffee, which was in the reduced section for $4.59. It sounds like they did not order enough of it. My friend purchased the bag, and will let me know how it is.

After the holidays are over, Jewel frequently puts their Christmas coffee on clearance for $2.00 a bag. Hope this helps, Nancy

I actually went to my Aldi's today (Belmont & Kimball) intending to get the Gingerbread coffee. They had none of the Christmas coffee the otehr location I had gone to the week before at Diversey and Kostner had. Guess I shouldn't have put it off. Grr.

Stopped in to buy peppered beef jerky, and ended up with that, and $60 worth of food I had no intention of purchasing. I couldn't walk by macadamia nuts for $4.99. Bought some artisan cheese, wheat crackers, and some baked chips, that taste just like baked Lays. Of course, the quad lettuce, went inot the basket too. I passed up the big bags of M&M's.

Just did cheese and crackers from Aldi for an office party. The cheeses (havarti, brie, a cranberry and cheddar) were all fine. The cheese ball (port wine with walnuts) was pretty much what you'd expect. But I'm writing to report that the crackers are absolutely fine--no reason to shop elsewhere. Both vaguely English assortment and the off-brand triscuts were excellent. I don't think anyone could tell the difference in a blind taste test.

Got a bag of fresh, big, pistachios that were also excellent.

Someone came around yesterday hanging Aldi's ads, with a coupon for $5 off a purchase of $30 or more, on doorknobs. Later, a neighbor came by and said, in such a nice sweet voice, "hey, hon, I'll take that Aldi's coupon for you, if you're not going to use it." I said, "I am going to use it!" She said, "you never go to Aldi's!" I said, "yes I do, sometimes, and now I've got a coupon!" "F#@* you," she grumbled, and walked away. What happened to the nice sweet voice? "Love you, too!" I called after her.

Last week I bought a hummus sampler that had a jalapeno-cilantro variety - sounded odd, but it was so delicious we fought over it. Today I planned to get some more, but nada! I know Aldi zips stuff in and out of rotation, but one week?!

    Really bummed. It was fantastic.

Had a successful shopping visit to Aldi's yesterday morning. The frozen mixed studels at $3.99 made for a great dessert last night. Also picked up two boxes of crackers, cream cheese, shredded cheddar (1 lb. bag), chopped walnuts, green onions and hot sauce to make up a cheeseball this weekend. Didn't see that they sell pimentoes so had to go to Dominick's next door to pick them up. All in all, a very good experience. And the four pack of Artisan lettuce is a wonderful deal - hope they have it thru winter. Just wish I had one of the $5 coupons!

I bought one around Thanksgiving and you are right, it was really good. That Jalapeno-Cilantro one ruled.

I just got back because I needed to stock up on cheese. Got 2 brie wheels, 2 goat cheese logs (one reg. one honey), and NY Cheddar. Total damage: 13 bucks.

I stopped by Aldi's last week and saw these but they're not an especially good deal. I believe they're roughly the same cost per ounce as the Suzie's brand at Costco. I also left the store without making a purchase because it was a sparer selection that I remembered and they had very little of what I was looking for at anything near a genuine savings (canned tomatoes and canned olives were not a good deal and they had no hearts of palm).

Hi- If you know somebody who belongs to Costco or Sam's Club, you can get an associate membership for $10 a year. I do that at Sam's Club, and I assume you can do that at Costco too. If I had to pay $50 a year for membership, it would not be worth it for me. At Sam's Club, I don't buy a lot of food there, because I can usually get it cheaper at Dominick's or Jewel. I do get Thomas English muffins at Sam's Club. because it is a really good deal, but you have to buy 2 packages that each contain 9 muffins though.

The things that I have found are really cheap at Sam's club are car batteries, gas, tires, CFL light bulbs, and prescriptions. I have also gotten good deals on books occasionally, and on stuff in the clearance section.

I find in general that I do better hitting the sales at Dominick's and Jewel than I do shopping at Aldi's or the ware house stores. On rare occasion Whole Foods will also have good sales on stuff that they have coupons for. I have gotten large cans of Muir Glen organic tomatoes for 50 cents at Whole Foods, when it was on sale for $1.50, and I had a $1 coupon. I also recently got a bag of 365 chocolate chips for 69 cents, because they had a $2.00 coupon in the Whole Deals coupon book. The coupon is still valid until 1/31, for those people that like to make chocolate chip cookies. The Whole Deal coupon book comes out every two months, and is available in the store. BTW- You can stack a store coupon, such as Whole Deal, with a manufacturer's coupon at Whole Foods. I just asked about it a few weeks ago.

    Hope this helps, Nancy

A Costco membership (regular for $55 or executive for $110) includes cards for 2 people living at the same address. If you buy a business membership ($55), you can add up to 6 additional cards for $55 each. To the best of my knowledge, there's no associate membership program at Costco, but I *think* that if someone gives you a Costco gift card, you can use it without a membership.

The days of 55-gallon drums of mayo are long gone. Much of what I buy at Costco is in multi-packs of normal-size cans/jars. Add in savings on gas, tires, TVs, etc. and the membership cost is not a big deal. Makes sense for families, may be less practical for singles (although my son and his roommate split a membership while they were in college).

Here in Montréal, Costco offers larger sizes of, e.g., excellent cheeses, EVOO, charcuterie, at better prices than the supermarket. When I go to the Aldi in Plattsburgh NY (an hour south of here) I load up on the European chocolates!
