The paper is off the windows at Naf Naf in Niles. They do not have any information on their website as to being officially open or not, so I'll have to check on it on the way home.

I noticed that the other day, and there was a help wanted sign in the window, so hopefully they will be opening sooner than later.

Wow, I'm all over that tomorrow. I never was able to get to the Naperville store, but now will be able to do a taste comparison, especially on the falafel. Is it more like the Jordanian style at Pita Inn/Skokie, or the Israeli kind at Mizrahi Grill/Highland Park? I like 'em both, can't wait.

Looked at the Naf Naf website for their menu (assuming that the new Niles store will employ similar pricing), and it looks like their price points are more than Pita Inn but less than Mizrahi Grill. I know, somewhat apples & oranges, but it seems that the menu is an amalgam of both. I want to try that purple cabbage salad and--of course--the falafel.

And it's relatively close to the Edens. Will report back tomorrow. Can't get a free shawarma every day, y'know... :)

From what I remember in discussing matters with the owner in Naperville a couple of years back (I believe he told me "I'm my own Rabbi"), Naf Naf is not under any official Kosher supervision and as such, pricing is cheaper. Places like Taboun and Mizrahi have higher operating costs and higher food costs because of the strict Kosher supervision.

Yep, Ronnie, I knew that Mizrahi is under Kosher supervision, just didn't know how much that actually adds to the overall cost. Has to be a couple bucks per item easy, probably more. But they do a nice job up there, real high quality & great taste. Never been a big fan of Taboun.

    Naf Naf awaits after work!

It is not so much the Supervision - there is a cost to that bit that is nominal compared to tthe cost of kosher meat which can run few dollars more a pound than non-kosher meat -

Exactly. That's why I mentioned food costs in my original post. There is a cost to rabbinical supervision but it's usually nominal.

The Happy Foods on Oakton will soon be a Dollar House Plus, which I believe is the same as the dollar store that is directly to the west. So now the question is, what will the old dollar store become?

The move is official, and the place is delightfully weird.
There is a larger selection of cheap imported merchandise and I no longer feel like I'm going to suffocate in those deathtrap aisles they used to have. But they kept the refrigerated section and a ton of junk food, and there's quite a lot of booze. So if you find yourself asking, where can I buy a toilet brush, some clamshell takeout containers, Flamin' Hot Cheetos, eggs and enough rum to attract a horde of pirates?, you have your answer.

That is a shocker! It's too bad, that was a really nice place.

Bona Cafe, 5211 N. Harlem, closed and is now something called Alibaba I think.

For the next couple months, 3809 N. Harlem will be Chicago Sports Hub.

I can't be sure, but I think Phil's Pizza D'Oro at 5800 N. Milwaukee may be gone. They haven't posted to Facebook since February and no one is answering their phone.
