We're looking for a restaurant or pub in the area around 355 and 88 (Lisle, Downers, Westmont.etc. area). We love locally owned, neigborhood places with good food and friendly people. Don't need to spend much. We like Freddy's Pizza but thats a little too far to the east for the people we're meeting tonight. Any ideas?

I'd say your best bets are:
-Alfie's in Glen Ellyn (on Roosevelt just west of Main, not far from 355) for good, cheap burgers with some dated decor and a good-sized bar area
-Bavarian Lodge in Lisle (on Ogden between 53 and Yackley) for a phenomenal beer selection and pretty good German food

A little further west would be GNRs Fabulous Noodle and Naf Naf Grill. In Downers would be Lao Szechuan. All are fantastic and not very expensive.

    Agree with above suggestions.
I work between 355 and 88 in Downers Grove.
    A few more ideas:
JT's Front Porch (hole in the wall, more bar than restaurant, good drinks and burgers).
I don't love Rockwood Tap House (used to be Finleys), but nice atmosphere. (more expensive drinks)
Miller's Ale House, never been, but some friends like it
Carlucci's, nice bar and drink/appetizer specials (My pick for dinner would be Fabulous Noodles, but I wanted to give you a few more ideas right off of I-355.)

I'm not sure how their food is but Emmett's Ale house in Downers Grove makes some pretty good beers. It's a nice bar too.

If you get out as far as Naperville, I highly recommend Ginger & Garlic for Chinese: http://www.wix.com/prescott888/gingerandgarlic

I think it's better than Fabulous Noodles or Katy's Dumplings, and I've been to all three more times than I can count.

That's a bold, bold statement! Haha but it DOES make me want to go try it out though... I think I was scared off by the cursed location, which can't seem to hold a restaurant for very long.

Well, it's my opinion ;) Here's a link to one of my meals there. I was there on New Year's Eve for lunch too, and really enjoyed their salted egg yolk fish and spicy "slobber" chicken:
