It's been a couple of years since our last homage to soup and it's time to bring out the stock pot. I am opening my home for a soup exchange at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012. The event is open to a total of 10, me included. Bring a pot of your favorite soup and nine small plastic containers with tight-fitting lids. We'll sample each soup and divvy up what's left. Bring your soup in a pot or crockpot. I have a five burner stove, so we can put at least half of the soups on the stove to keep them warm. If anyone would rather bring fresh bread instead of or along with their soup, that would be welcome as well. I live in the not too far western suburbs and I'll pm the address the week prior.

    Attendees

Ms. Ingie - Cream of Cauliflower
Cookie Monster - Chicken Corn Chowder
Mrsm - Parmesan Black Pepper Bread
LAZ - Cream of Tomato w/oregano
    RheS - Rustic Bread
Cathy 2 - Polish Pickle Soup
    Ruth - Mushroom Soup
Pie Lady - Jamaican Rice & Pea Soup with Salt Cod
    Helen - Chicken Rice Soup

Oh boy! I make soup all year 'round, that's how much I love soup. However, I have a class that day that ends at 3pm, so I would certainly be late. If that doesn't bother you, please sign me up!

Does this include stew/gumbo/chili as well?

Whenever I host anything, most people are late. Figured I'd start at 3:00 p.m. because being late for a 5:00 p.m. start on a Sunday night just gets things going to late. Feel free to show up when you can. I definitely consider Gumbo in the soup category, chili and stew, not so much. :)

Wonderful! I will haul ass. I have a CrockPot, so no burner is necessary for me.

I have no idea what I'm bringing yet. I'll attempt to bring some form of bread, too, if I have time.

Just read that January is National Soup Month. How fitting that we should be having our soup exchange in January.

I'm thinking about making Cream of Cauliflower soup. I'm doing a test run first.

This sounds great! Please count me in. I will make pea soup with ham hocks. And I will bring rye bread. Sadly, not home made. With butter on the side. If I could use your oven for a few minutes, I'll toast it. And I'll also bring garlic butter.

I actually just added Gohan Lover, so you're number 11, but that's fine. We were chatting since she can't make the dessert exchange tonight but said she would come to the soup exchange. She's also bringing split pea. Two split pea soups will be fine as I'm sure they'll both taste different. Don't worry about bringing bread. Mrsm and RheS are bringing bread and I imagine Dobra will as well.

    See you later,

    Hi,

I am thinking of making a Polish pickle soup. I have never made it before, always like it when I bump into it and saved pickling liquid from my last batch of fermented pickles.

If I change my mind, it might be a meatball soup or a sauerkraut soup. For the moment, I am sold on the idea of Polish pickle soup.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I'm going to attempt coco bread. I'll make gizzada tarts for people to take home, if I have time.

I've seen it lots of places, but I generally shop at Fresh Farms, Marketplace and Lincolnwood Produce. I doubt you can find them at Jewel/Dominicks.

At Fresh Farms: go to the end of the produce section, just past the tomatoes. On the left is a wall of chocolate- and yogurt-covered nuts, gummy bears, etc. Turn left. On your left is now a refrigerator case of tofu and other Asian goodies. At the end of this case at the bottom are the salt cod fillets, and are generally 1.2 to 1.4 pounds.

I'm not positive where they are at Marketplace and Lincolnwood Produce, but I'm pretty sure they're near the deli/meat cases.
