They were supposed to be open in the Spring, then August.
Anyone have details about why this is being held up?

World's slowest construction - and a delay in Deerfield giving them a liquor license. Should be opening soon as a Now Hiring banner is hanging out front.

I have to agree with the comments made on this thread about Rosebud Italian Country House & Pizzeria in Deerfield. My first experience there, a recent carry-out dinner, won't have me rushing back any time soon. Even though my expectations were low, being that it's so close to my home, I figured I had to give it at least one try. Still, the food fell way short.

Between our group, we tried several items. Most were awful and none were successful. The most egregious was the horrible pizza. Its crust was flavorless, dense and completely lifeless. In just about every way, it reminded me of the stuff usually found under frozen pizzas. The top side -- cheese and sausage -- was ridiculously salty. A cup of Italian Wedding Soup tasted fishy -- one spoon and into the trash. Two separate orders of pasta were complete mush. One of those, pappardelle, was so overcooked and compacted into its container, I told my wife it reminded me of noodle kugel. An order of "Brick" Chicken (crispy) was cooked nicely and tasted fine but it was served with (aka covered by) a side of broccolini that had been strewn with loads of coarsely-chopped, uncooked garlic, rendering it completely unpalatable. A side of meatballs was flavorless and dry, and swimming in a weak and watery tomato sauce. Bread was not like I remember from Highland Park. Here, it was some very dried out square-ish rolls.

I was never a major devotee of Rosebud Highland Park but for 6.5 years, my office was just a few blocks away and it was a reliable, if not spectacular, choice for lunch. It seems to me that Highland Park's loss is Deerfield's loss, too. :(

I really liked the first pizza I got there. The spicy sausage delicious and it was nice and thin. The second one I got was much thicker, bready, and was like eating cardboard. I know I liked the first one, and it was a bit thinner, so I'll give them another chance, but I'll order it extra thin (and well done).

Some places do well for dine-in food, but can't pull off carry-out, for various reasons: food that "doesn't travel well", inability to have all of the order finish cooking and ready for pickup at the same time, lack of appropriate containers, etc. (By the same token, there are other places who do very well at carry-out, even though there may be better places for dine-in.)

I'm not disagreeing with anyone above - I haven't eaten at Rosebud Deerfield - but posts about carry-out food need to be considered with that perspective.

When you order pasta, they serve it to you in the pan. I suppose this is better than a bucket.

It actually wasn't that bad. Maybe a little bland and unexciting, but certainly not inedible. The presentation though...

I find it interesting that for two major Italian 'chains', Tuscany & Rosebud, the original stores--each on Taylor Street--seem to be MUCH better than their suburban counterparts. Although I'm not a big fan of Rosebud anyway, the original location has a cool bar & pretty inspired fare. The bone-in veal parm I had on a business dinner a couple months ago was fine indeed. And Tuscany on Taylor is consistent, classy, quick (like before a Hawks' game) and better than it has to be, for what it's worth.

But I've tried Tuscany/Wheeling, Rosebud Downtown & Rosebud HPark, all with varying degrees of yuck. I don't get it. Maybe they're too antisepticly suburban, or maybe with a captive-audience clientele, they don't have to strive to be stellar.

Conversely, the LEYE standard Mon Ami Gabi, is absolutely the same in Lincoln Park, Oak Brook or Vegas. Something to be said for that.

Just comparing it to other carry-out, of which I've had plenty over the years (including from Rosebud).

I don't know that its that "they don't have to drive to be stellar", I think its that both chains suffer from unacceptable levels of inconsistency. On the three occasions that we have visited Rosebud-Naperville, the food has been delicious and the waitstaff has been terrific. On the other hand, Rosebud-Schaumburg has always been a solid "meh", and Deerfield has been (as reported) totally underwhelming.
