With over 5000 books in our house, that's a tough order, but of books the I say, "You have to read this" I list the following:
* Declare, Tim Powers. Nazi spies, djinni in the arabian peninsula, and peeling back the layers of reality of the world. A masterpiece.
* Sabriel, Garth Nix. A young-adult fantasy that is an absolute joy -- no Harry Potter sappiness, no Golden Compass preachiness, just a great story in a world fully fleshed out and different from any other fantasy I've read, while still feeling familiar and comfortable
* Bellwether, Connie Willis. Willis is probably the closest thing we have to a Mark Twain right now: social satire at its finest. She has some terrific time-travel stories that'll have you rolling on the floor, but this one is more of a Dilbert-y research department looking into fads and trends. We bought ten copies to give to friends and relatives one xmas

Thanks for letting us jump in at the last minute, the food and company was terrific.

I'd be curious to know how the first-timers felt about what they ate. Did the pizza meet, surpass or fall short of your expectations? Was it worth all the necessary pre-planning?

My 2nd trip. Sharon remembered me. I'm partial to thin crust, but this pan-style always pleases me. Unfortunately, I can never eat very much because it is pan-style. The spinach, mushroom, and garlic was lovely. But then so was the Saveur cover pie, spinach, tomatoes, and peppers, I think. The toppings were fresh and Burt continues to use a deft approach to seasoning.

My girlish figure and the fact that it's in Morton Grove keeps me from going more frequently.

I love having the food hit the table once I get there because of the pre-order policy.

I'm partial to thin crust, but this pan-style never fails to disappoint.

I couldn't agree more. I generally pre-order pan/deep dish when I go out for it (even when not required) because it can be a long wait, otherwise. I learned this as a kid in the 1970's at the flagship Malnati's. My parents took us and as we sat waiting, we all wondered why so many people who'd come in after us were being served before us. When we asked the waitress, she explained. I've been a pre-orderer ever since.

No offense to pairs4life and the other vegetarians, but I felt we were a little meat-light that event. The spinach combos started to sound like the Monty Python spam: spinach garlic and pepper, spinach tomato and mushroom, spinach spinach spinach spinach baked beans spinach spinach and spinach...

Mind you I really like spinach on pizza... but I felt like we didn't explore the spectrum of combinations well.,

The sausage/mushroom was divine, and had I been part of the original party (we were a late substitution) I'd have lobbied for the sausage jalapeno combos I've seen mentioned here before. (or perhaps spinach and sausage).

Oh, but the crust! That's what I'm there for: Rich focaccia-like dough, tart tomato sauce caramelizing on the edges! That's what I'm there for.

This is how some of us used to feel at the LTH events where bacon, with a bit of pig, would be served. It's a new year and it's awesome to see an LTH event ever mentioned as light on meat.

I thought it was light on meat too, but that's what people seemed to want, at least the first signer-uppers. If anyone suggested another meat pizza, I would have ordered it. One of the veg pizzas was Sharon's favorite.

I had a great time. Good company. The food was fine. It ain't my style of pizza. But I enjoyed it. When I have pizza, only occasionally, I like thin crust, or on special occasions, once or twice a year, Bacinos makes a good deep dish, with a stellar tomato sauce. I am starting to swoon, and I just ate.
Pie lady, thank you for putting this on the books and making it happen.
ps PL, I loved your list of books. I laughed out loud and the dog even cracked a smile.
pps I also enjoyed the ordering ahead. All smoothly done. Great job BR; service was faultless.
