The Evanston Lunch Group continues to explore the culinary riches of neighboring suburbs. We will venture to Lincolnwood to try Taste of Cuba, which opened last summer, on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 12:30. Pie Lady reports satisfaction with the food; Cilantro--not so much, so we will see what our discerning diners (lunchers?) think.

The entire menu is available for lunch, and I am looking forward to some Cuban coffee and sandwiches, and possibly some of the bistec recommended by Pie Lady.

    Please join us!

    Wednesday, January 25, 12:30 p.m. at:
    Taste of Cuba
    3918 W. Touhy Avenue
    Lincolnwood, IL 60712

Well, how can I resist? :) Please put me down.

I wonder if we can persuade them to make us the ropa vieja?

In for one also.... Thanks, EvA! Just to verify, lunch is at 12, rather than our usual 12:30?

I ate at Taste of Cuba this past summer (never got around to posting), but enjoyed what I had and always meant to get back there on a weekend to try the ropa vieja--so I echo Pie Lady's sentiment. Although I think it unlikely they would make it for a Wednesday, unless we have a fairly large group....

You are right, tt, we are meeting at 12:30. Sorry for the error! I will correct the subject line.

We have a table reserved for 10 people under "Evelyn." Believe me, a group of 10 LTHers are not hard to miss--we take up a fair amount of room :) .

We'll introduce ourselves - maybe even with our real names.

Just look for the biggest table in the place, where people are arriving one or two at a time. :)

I am stuffed. I liked everything I had today, the best being the ropa and flan. I wasn't a big fan of the empanadas, but they were still pretty good.

It was nice seeing/meeting you! Behavioral & SteveF...hope you had a good introductory meal.

Yes, the ropa was the star. But it is nice to have a Cuban restaurant close by.

We had a pleasant lunch at Taste of Cuba Café. The owners were friendly and enthusiastic. I am not very knowledgeable about Cuban cuisine, but I found the Ropa Vieja (their house specialty) savory and flavorful, and I liked the Cubano sandwich as well. The Cuban coffee was excellent and is keeping me going all afternoon after a big meal. The flan with a layer of chocolate was like two desserts in one. The other dishes were less interesting, but I enjoyed our meal and would go back for the ropa and to try other sandwiches, especially the breakfast sandwiches.

It was a pleasure meeting all of you today, too! You've definitely made me a fan of the Evanston Lunch Group (and I even got a membership card to boot!)

And I agree with everyone about the Ropa Vieja. I've had shredded beef done many different ways, and this was one of my favorites by far.

I'm still not too keen on the waffle fries served with the Cubano (standard Cuban pork pressed sandwich) -- it was tasty, but who knows if it's what Cubans like to eat! :o

Great to meet you all as well! And I support the Ropa Consensus - a bucket of that in my fridge would not last long. Thanks to the visionaries who made sure that it would be available.
