    Hey all -

Planning to take mom out for a (late) lunch on her birthday, figuring that way we could get into places we might not otherwise that don't take reservations. It's a Friday in Feb.

She loves burgers, so I was thinking maybe Kuma's, but I don't know how crowded they get during the week, or maybe Avec (which would almost be an early dinner if we go right when they open).

Anyone who might share experiences of going to either of these during the week, thanks in advance :)

My feeling is that on a Friday, Avec at 3:30 would be less of a wait than Kuma's. (I drive by Kuma's almost every day, and on Fridays there's a line outside pretty much all afternoon.)

There's generally zero wait at Avec when they first open, regardless of the day of the week.

    Also, Avec is better.

I love Avec probably my favorite go to restaurant in the city and can say that if you get there early, no wait.

I suppose it depends on your Mom (anyone who loves burgers can't be too stuffy). Kuma's is great, but if you don't get the heavy metal references, you miss a lot of the experience. There are plenty of places that serve a good Burger that might be more Mom friendly and birthday worthy. How about Owen & Engine? Anyhow, given the original choice, I would definitely have to say Avec. I don't ever miss a chance to go there, especially if somebody else is paying.

Edzo's. Best burgers, best fries, best shakes! When I want a terrific burger, that's where I go.

O&E isn't open for lunch on weekdays, unfortunately. Kuma's will be nuts even for a late lunch on a Friday. If you're really aiming for one of the no-reservations places I think I'd go with Avec.

If you want a burger, Hot Chocolate's burger is pretty damn good, and is open for Friday lunch (although hours are only 11:30-2 apparently). Bad Apple is open for lunch on Fridays too.
