Found another food related show-Food Hoarders. Slimy fridges, freezers packed with undated and unidentifiable frozen masses and canned goods with way beyond expiration dates. Some of the rationalizations behind the hoarding were compelling-i.e. it was a great sale so I bought extra...freezing extends the use by date... etc. I did learn that the few pennies saved on a sale turned into dollars lost as the food expired and I had to toss it out. I now try not to buy extras I will not use in the near future.

Mama Fresser tells me of years-old tomato sauce cans that, on occasion, would explode. That would make for good entertainment in my book.

However, one glimpse of this "Hoarders" show propels me to my fridge, which I then start cleaning almost obsessively.

I rushed to get milk today to make pancakes. While I was in the store I remembered I had buttermilk in the freezer.

Yesterday, I got ready to make dinner and realized one of our staples, chickpeas, was missing. Of course it was a crucial ingredient to dinner & sent me into a spin like a dervish since I didn't want to make the dish without them.

Lesson learned- Beginning to inventory the freezer now & hope to perhaps inventory the dry goods so I don't think I have 20 cans of chickpeas and have none. smh

Freezer is now clean & inventoried. Time to prep dinner.

Parsnips aren't here yet so I guess we will have them on Thursday.

I had cleaned out my kitchen cabinets and fridge as a resolution so I could watch 'guilt free' but candidly I have used expired items with "some" success.
