    Omega vs Kappy's

These places are very similar members of a restaurant genre that used to totally inundate Chicago, but seems to be dying away: The Greek-American Coffee Shop/Diner. You know the kind with the giant 5 page menu and tons of daily specials held onto the menu with a paper clip. They are both located at the edge of similar strip shopping malls in neighboring suburbs. Is one better than the other or are they about the same? Why?

My vote goes to Kappy's - not because the food is excellent (which it is), but because George, the owner, makes you feel like a regular and a FOTH (friend of the house) even on your first visit. It's actually quite a large place, but it sure doesn't feel like it, the way they treat every customer with personal attention.

Also, Kappy's has more unusual dishes that Omega doesn't, like their awesome prime rib hash, and their large skillet pancakes (such as the German pancake, similar to the one at Walker Brothers).

Kappy's may have more interesting menu items, but Omega's menu is at least as large, they have a giant bakery, they're open 24 hours, and the prices are reasonable.
A breakfast of eggs, bacon and pancakes should not cost $15, I don't care what day it is.

If I'm just having eggs and pancakes, I'll make them at home (which is cheaper than either one, of course). I'll go out for dishes that are special and different, not just ordinary everyday fare, and prepared better than what I can make at home. That's Kappy's, all the way. Kappy's makes me want to come back again and again. Omega doesn't.

I voted for Kappy's because I think their omelets are better than the Omega's. Having said that, Kappy's kind of let me down this past Sunday. I usually make up my own omelet, and mine had tomatoes (washed-up winter tomatoes) added to it that I didn't ask for. Also, our waitress forgot my bacon side order and the toast was basically "raw." Our server was very nice, just not necessarily in the right line of work. We still tipped generously, though, as it was her birthday.

What is the little x for at the end of Omega in the poll?

If you voted for Omega, that's how it would show.
