I’ve been in the mood for buttery crustaceans lately, and figured I’d try to gather a few people to visit one of my favorite spots.

I’ve only eaten at a couple other Nayarit style restaurants in Chicago, but I did dine on awesome seafood extensively in Nayarit, Mexico! I think Veneno stacked up amongst the best of what I ate in mexico. In fact there is a Veneno of the same ownership in Nayarit, and the Chicago location blew it out of the water! It would be great if other fans of the cuisine or anyone interested could join me and let me know how it stacks up against others in Chicago!

They don’t exactly take reservations, but on a Thursday we’re likely to get a table within 15-20 minutes if not immediately. I’m going to say we should meet up at 7:30.
I’m going to limit the list to the first 10 including me +2.

I could use a Nayarit fix. Put me down for one.

It looks like this is shaping up to be a great group! A couple things to note. Veneno is BYOB. Dishes there are all family style and HUGE, so bring a big appetite (is if you didn't plan that already). The price will probably come out around $20/pp plus tip, give or take.

I'm sorry, but I've been fighting a tummy bug for a couple of days and it won so I'm out for this evening. I'll be home drinking chicken soup and thinking of all the goodies I'm missing. Sigh.

    Echoing Distinktif's sentiments...

Thanks again, Laikom for organizing. The food far exceeded my expectations, and as always, terrific time feasting with you and fellow LTHers. However, last night's people watching was unsurpassed, better than any Parisian sidewalk cafe. :)

Still dreaming of those langoustines (Prawns Nayarit Style?) and raw shrimp dish (Ahogados Shrimps or Aguachiles?). The El Veneno salad and crab legs were follow-up favorites. The seafood was so very fresh. Especially obvious was the octopus (octopii?) in the Veneno salad, plump and tender with just the right crunch, instead of gummy globs of tasteless rubber.

Ready to go back very soon, especially if they have the langoustines on the menu.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed the event, I hadn't realized that it had been so long since i had those langostinos. I have been told that the restaurant is very specific about their supply of seafood from alaska. Their supplier was not providing the right ones for a while, so they were off the menu. They are really REALLY good. I think it was stevez who questioned if we should really order the crab legs but then was surprised at the quality. They really do source good seafood and have a lot turnover.
