This spot has been open a while now and I haven't seen it mentioned here which is too bad as it should not be overlooked. Recommended to me by the owner of another paki bbq spot in the suburbs, this is a medium sized place a few blocks west of California serving up some really good bbq dishes, including a variety of items I haven't seen elsewhere (kastoori chicken, hara bari chicken, gola kabob) in addition to a very respectable Nehari and chicken Charga. The chicken Boti really stands out, and though in a different style, even stands up against that found at the usual board favorite. Haven't had everything on the menu, but from what Ive tried it's clear these folks are very particular about the food they serve, and it comes through.

I'd like this place even if the owner wasn't as pleasant and friendly as he is. My recent favorite and definitely worth a visit.

Anmol's been open for well over a year now I think. Its actually the 2nd Anmol.. the first serves the best Pakistani food in Milwaukee, WI :-) (Ive had a couple meals at the Milwaukee one and its pretty good - but really there is little reason to go Pakistani in Milwaukee unless forced to by friends, since its far better to concentrate on burgers, cheese curds, custard and the like).

Have tried the Devon Anmol a few times - pretty solid, was my view, but not spectacular. The Charga was better-priced than other places (10 bucks I think?), but felt a touch dry to me. The Chicken Boti is red-masala rather than the Khan's green-masala, isnt it? Quite different (unless Iam remembering wrong). Havent tried their Nehari, but have heard good things about it. I ought to try this place a bit more... tho recently, Ive made mostly flying trips to Devon to grab Chicken Biryani to go from "Biryani's", a very good new mostly carryout place not far from Anmol, which I think Ive mentioned before..)

I had lunch there today. The mutton champs (goat champs) were more likely lamb, but were very good, if not a bit overpriced. The chicken boti is, indeed the red masala type and was over marinated o the point of being very mealy. Daal palak suffered from not very much spinach, but was well flavored an had a generous amount of ghee. An order of plain rice was spot on. All in all, Anmol was a nice change of pace from Khan's, but I much prefer the food (and prices) at Khan.

This was a somewhat modest lunch by LTH standards consisting of two entrees, a vegetable dish, a naan, a paratha and rice. The bill came to nearly $50 for two people. I was kind of surprised by that.

Softer and redder than Khan no doubt, but not mushy or over marinated when I've had it for dinner. ?problem marinating over night vs stylistic difference. Anyway, we liked it fine. I tend to avoid "champs" in Paki spots....I find they often dry out in the Tandoor and are usually a poor value Agree the prices are a bit higher than street average. Glad you enjoyed the rice tho.

It wasn't just stylistically different. It was marinated too long (probably overnight). We actually couldn't finish the chicken boti. It could well have been an off day. They weren't very busy at all. I'd certainly go back and explore more of the menu. My post might have sounded more negative than I meant it to.

Must have been something amiss. But I do think there's a significant stylistic difference that goes beyond color. I suspect that the Anmol guys marinate with yogurt, which tnds to tenderize, and Khan doesn't (he uses half and half). I think that's the key. I found what I had to be soft but quite tasty. You may just prefer the Khan method which preserves the texture rather than altering it. Not sure which is " right". I find this particularly evident in the beef boti kababs (even at Khan) where I find the softness off putting.
