For some weeks I have noticed a small Vietnamese restaurant in one of our Glenview Shopping Centers (Heatherfield Shopping Center) on Waukegan, just south of Willow (in the Jewel/Osco center). I finally made it in on Friday. The restaurant serves several styles of Pho, but also "mainstream" Chinese, Mongolian, Korean, Japanese, and Thai cuisine (which I did not try), which leads to their label as Pan-Asian.
The Pho was very good. Not at the highest point (the spices were a little muted), but in the big, broad middle of Argyle Pho Restaurants, and not so different in price ($8.95 for the most expensive - tendon, eye round steak, brisket, flank meat, meat balls). I was quite pleased, considering it is about a ten-minute drive from my home. The Banh Mi ($3.95) was also quite good (ham, liver paste, pickled daikon, peppers), only marred by a rather dull sandwich roll.
Noodles "Pho" U is a mini chain (four local restaurants). Gocubs88 suggested that they can be variable in quality, but suggested that they were impressive when they were on their game. They were on last Friday.

Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik
