Help with Ohio – Dayton

Due to circumstances beyond my control I may be spending a few weeks (or possibly months) in Columbus OH. If anyone has any recommendations in Columbus PLEASE let me know – cheap eats appreciated.

My coworker faces the same situation but will be stranded in Dayton – any help you can give there is also greatly appreciated!

As a University of Dayton graduate, Milano's WAS ONCE the best sub sandwich available in Ohio.

However, they sold out five years ago and the sandwiches are pretty bad and that is even at their Brown Street location. It was a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. And there is one on every corner in the Dayton vicinity.

However, less than a block away is the Pine Club, a Dayton steakhouse institution.

If you want a good sandwich, head to one of the three locations of the Dorothy Lane Market. Great bakery, excellent prepared food. IMO, DLM is one of the FINEST independent grocery stores in the Midwest. Period.

Anyone know any decent places in Dayton?

My fiancee is from Dayton which has required that I spend some time there.

I can recommend enthusiastically for very solid modern american fare. I'm not a big salad guy but their salads are excellents as were their frites.

The same family owns the Wheat Penny downtown, which I didn't like as much but they have a few very excellent pizzas and burgers. Good spot for a lunch downtown.

Deweys pizza near the University has some very excellent pizzas (my recollection is their red pizzas are much better than their white). Nice is small craft beer list and some interesting topping options.

Also I really enjoyed the newly open toxic brewing company in the oregon district as a spot for quality craft beer.
