Does anyone know what happened to Pete & Johnny's on Ogden Ave. in Lisle? This was my favorite place to go for a burger and did a lot of business, but randomly closed down a few months ago. They pulled their website right away and made no announcements about closing.

Looks like some Pizza Joint is opening up in it's place. Not sure if that will work either. Pete and Johnny's were wildly inconsistent.

we used to go there occasionally before moved out of Naperville, and I guess I had assumed they had gone under long ago. Passing by the location the past year or so found their parking lot empty with little signs of life.

nostalgia wise I preferred the location when it was Jakes Pizza & Pub back in the day(many a little league/youth football pizza party was had there).

That's really a shame they are replacing it with another pizza place. I'm surprised you found it to be inconsistent. I ate there all the time for about 10 years and never had a bad burger, and I'm extremely picky about my burgers. They were one of the few places that would cook the burger rare every time I ordered it rare.

In the past I was a very frequent (almost daily after work for a time) visitor to P&J's. I agree the burgers were great as was the chopped steak. In the last few years many changes were made and almost everyone I knew stopped going there. After I moved to CT my wife and I would stop in for sake of nostalgia during our visits but quickly move on to other venues to see friends.

The last thing I heard was that they abruptly closed one night, re-opened, then finally closed for good without much notice. I guess one of the partners wanted out and they couldn't come to an agreement.

I never made it to P&J's but would have liked to. It looks like the website for the new place, Pizzeria Bombola, is now up: http://pizzeriabombola.com. The sign boasts of pizza & craft beer, but the beer menu looks pretty weak to make that claim on their sign. I'm sure I'll make it in there eventually and I'll report back when I do.

I grew up in Lisle, and also remember when that location was Jake's Pizza for many, many years. That said, I am surprised that a new pizza place is going in with all of the competition in the Lisle/Naperville area now. I ate at Pete & Johnny's a number of times, and found it to be decent but nothing special. It seemed like they did a pretty good bar business.

It really is a shame the partners couldn't come to an agreement. Lisle truly lost an iconic restaurant over it.
