† 'Cyd & D'Pano' mortus est; requiescat in pace. †

I only went there a couple of times this past spring and it was clear from the produce section that things weren't going so well. But they had the best selection of, in my opinion, the best brand of dry pasta in the city.

I always liked C & DP. I think they had a problem defining who they really were. At first it was a nice neighborhood market with some fine produce (same owner as Stanley's IIRC) and baked goods, then they jumped the shark and tried to become more of a cafe. I think that was their downfall. I'll miss that place.

I think that their major problem was timing. When they opened, the neighborhood was not nearly developed as it is now.

The produce, when they first opened, was spectacular. Advertising new management three times in less than two years was the beginning of their downfall. In the end, their produce was limited and often rotting...

Dominicks opening on Halstead really hurt their business and the opening of Gourmet 47 was the nail in the coffin.

I stopped in to check out Gourmet 47 this evening, and they appear to have more than a few of their own coffin nails in motion. They had better tighten that tourniquet :!:
