Great idea, perfectly executed (and this from someone who was extremely fortunate to have finished in the next-to-last group, instead of the dead bottom)! As much as Trixie-Pea and Pigmon may have hoped to set the stage for others to do this in the future, I think I speak for the group in saying that I hope you'll plan another one!! I'm afraid anyone's else's attempt would be inferior :D

Chief O'Neill's was the perfect venue--i'm so happy I finally got to try the vaunted fish and chips--they were as good as everyone has said.

    thanks for a great night!!

What a relaxed, fun, and educational evening; the pasta chart, smell samples, and fermented mystery cube were particularly inspired. Bravo to the organizers, MC, AV, Dr., and Chef!

On the cuisine front, it would be hard for me to crave a different plate of fish and chips at the moment (perfectly done, and excellent fries), and the signature beet napoleon on the sampling menu was LTH-resonant and memorable; Jazzfood has a true talent with sweet-sour pairings, and also vinaigrettes of all kinds.

That was one helluva a great night. My thanks go out to all who helped make it such a stellar, memorable, high-quality event. It was obvious at every turn that quite a bit of work and planning went into the event, and it really paid off. The trivia component was phenomenal, as were the food, drink, service and the venue. It was truly impressive to me just how much knowledge was in that room last night -- wow! What a great community we have. I feel lucky to be a part of it.

Here are a few whisky-impaired pictures of the evening. My apologies if I misidentified anyone. There were a few folks I hadn't met before and it was somewhat loud, so it was hard to hear everyone's names. Corrections are welcomed and encouraged . . .

Thank you all for the kind words. Trix and I had a lot of fun putting this thing together. Obviously, most of the creative ideas came from her.

Thanks to Chief O"Neill's and chef Alan Lake (Sula: "Chef Alan Lake, ladies & gentlemen") for their amazing hospitality and vittles, to Peter Engler for providing his sensational photos, old postcards and dry sense of humor, and a huge thank you to Mr. Mike Sula who's MC talents shined all night and kept us (at least me) laughing.

What a fun evening!! Let me join the chorus of praise for Trixie-Pea, PIGMON, Rene G, m'th'su, stevez and jazzfood, the amount of effort put into this evening was just amazing. As boudreaulicious said up-thread, the bar has been set very high for any future event (and I do hope that will happen), The Cromane Musselers are looking to take the title away from The Parsnip Factor next year.

Just a quick word about Alan's food, I certainly expected everything to be up to his usual standards and I wasn't disappointed, but what stood out for me were the details. I'm Irish and I've eaten my share of mushy peas mostly so bad that I actually forget they could have taste, I was blown away at how good these were and I wasn't the only one at my table who took notice. You could taste actual pea flavor, butter and was that a hint of mint? The lamb stew had a depth of flavor, the lamb was melty and unctuous and the wonderfully barley had just enough chew. It was had to concentrate on the game while eating.
