i was thinking the same thing. walking from the train stations could be good exercise and head clearing time. maybe we could make large chunks of the 24 hours trainable, even if not all. hopefully, it'll be warmer than 10 years ago. didn't it snow? it sure was cold, i remember. chinatown is on the greenline, i think. manny's is close to the train. so is argyle street. so is wicker park- maybe a lazo's vs. arturo's taco competition at 3 am?

no need to stop here on my account. frankly, the fewer stops the better. this is a daunting prospect as it is.Last time, a few of us made an impromptu stop at Goose Island (Joan was feeling a bit peckish) so for continuity's sake another visit might be in order.
Are we going to try to find the Kimchi Museum again?

Lawrence is pretty bad, though. There's also Red Hot Ranch, which has great fried shrimp and is open very late (I think 4:00 AM) and is near Arturos and Lazo's

This gets better every minute. If we hit Pleasant House at 5pm, we'd be right on schedule for the fish fry and could take it next door to the patio at Maria's?
justjoan wrote:frankly, the fewer stops the better.
Santander wrote:Note that Troha's is not eat-in (though they have a large back-of-house - special arrangement / tour, perhaps?), so you'd need to order and perhaps sweet-talk Delicias Mexicanas into letting you double up there; I can't remember a convenient park nearby, and that isn't a conducive sidewalk for hanging out, in my opinion.
justjoan wrote:ursiform is right. why not put pleasant house right at 5pm when the fish fry starts? that way we are guaranteed food and more room to eat it at maria's.
also, the beautifully restored stearns quarry is very close to ed's, at 28th and halsted. we could take a lap around it. it'll be smart to have a nice break from eating and the quarry is awesome. (watch this youtube video)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhEJthwj53A
and i also think ronnie suburban's point about the berghoff should be noted. we should finish up at the berghoff at noon, not get started. i'm planning on doing the whole shebang, but i'm not crazy.....
Vital Information wrote:I'd really hope we can keep Freddy's in the mix, as this will be my 10th anniversary of eating there. It would be cool if we could combine that part of the jaunt with a drink at Klas, which I believe (hope) is open on Fridays.
Me, I'd ditch the current Chinatown line-up, not the least, it seems we're quite heavy on Chinatown and on standards. I'd rather we go instead to one of the HK style places that have late night menus like Chi Cafe or even visit, which would make sense in a lot of ways, the food court.
I strongly suggest, and it's an odd remiss from the first voyage, that we get a Maxwell St. polish.
Shan AND a cabbie joint seem duplicative. I really like the idea of early AM carnitas at like Don Pedro or something like that in Pilsen instead.
Could we squeeze Marie's Pizza in as we should have some pizza (and then hit some of the other places around Lawrence/Kedzie?)
Perhaps a giant donut stuffed with ice cream late at night at Huck Finn?
And would not it make sense to get in line some time on Saturday for a donut at Do Rite or Donut Vault?
I could hope, maybe, we can be at Green City Market when it opens at 8 AM. Just because any celebration of food should celebrate where our food starts.
In the same vein, what about swinging by Butcher & Larder
Continuing the vein, one of our rash of new breweries/brew pubs would make sense. Maybe Haymarket (close to PQM?). A tour of someplace would be very good, if not a brewery, maybe Koval.
The Wooddlawn Tap section is missing the critical "get bbq" portion - Who's picking up from Uncle John's?
If we did have a jaunt to/near Johnnie's, I'd suggest we re-jaunt not too far from there to the newly re-furbished re-opened Caffe Italia for a pick-me-up. We can continue, of course, for Will Specials.
Lately, I'm just in love with Ann's Bakery & Deli in Ukie Village, and I wonder if we can sneak that in. We need something to represent the Eastern European heritage of our town, no?
Is Uncle Johnny's still open? I feel we need some form of old school Bridgeport to match the new. As I'm nearly the only one around here that likes Riccobenes, I don't think that'll work.
No Filbert's?
Just some food for thought.

How about squeezing in a La Chapparita stop? Seems fairly mandatory to me.
